England’s maiden home test without Stuart Broad and James Anderson went off smoothly as their revamped bowling attack comprising Woakes, Wood and Gus Atkinson thoroughly pummelled West Indies.
After an impressive opening to their innings at Trent Bridge, West Indies experienced a rapid batting collapse from 61-6 to 91-6 as Shoaib Bashir began dismantling their batting lineup with devastating accuracy. Hosts appear poised for a decisive win at Trent Bridge. In this article, we will discuss about England Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
1. West Indies vs England – Test Match
West Indies were desperate to recover after suffering an overwhelming innings defeat in their opening Test match of the 2024 Richards-Botham Trophy series at Trent Bridge. Following an impressive start in their second innings with Shamar Joseph and Joe Root both making centuries, but ultimately capitulated and were all-out dismissed for 457 all out; giving England an easy victory.
Starting on Friday 26th July at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the third and final Test will commence. First ball will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT).
England made an early statement of intent on Day 3 at Trent Bridge as Chris Woakes and Joe Root combined for a 108-run partnership to give their side an early edge. England quickly capitalized on ideal overhead conditions by using tight lines from their pacers who quickly picked off four wickets during morning session alone.
But West Indies batsmen made a valiant comeback in the afternoon session, with Joshua Da Silva and Shamar Joseph coming together in a crucial 71-run partnership that was enough to erase their deficit. Joseph would eventually fall to Alzarri Joseph for an exceptional 107, while Da Silva was trapped lbw by Alzarri Joseph while Ollie Pope fell victim to Keaton Samuels’ excellent catch at gully.
Woakes then made an unsuccessful appeal for an LBW against Louis. His 15th ball hit Louis high on both pads before stumping him – however a review was granted when Woakes misjudged a delivery, and umpire agreed it would have hit leg stump.
2. West Indies vs England – T20 Match
England have restored their T20 dominance with a convincing win against West Indies at St Lucia, starting slowly but building to an impressive victory. Jos Buttler and Phil Salt put on an outstanding opening stand of 67 runs to set England on their way towards 181. Unfortunately for West Indies however, Sherfane Rutherford (28 not out) and Romario Shepherd both fell within successive overs leaving England well positioned for victory.
England’s bowlers excelled in an eventful encounter between big hitters from both teams, limiting Windies to just 147 runs in 20 overs thanks to an effective combination of pace and spin bowling.
Mark Wood claimed his first wicket in the fourth over, trapping Alick Athanaze leg before. Later he had Rovman Powell caught at slip by Joe Root. Soon afterwards he had Sherfane Rutherford caught at short third man by Sam Curran; an outstanding performance from Mark Wood who completed four overs at an astounding speed of 97mph!
Johnson Charles claimed the final wicket to fall, striking Adil Rashid’s delivery over long off for an incredible six. This shot showcased Charles’ ability and suggested that he can become an important T20 force.
England received a much-needed boost as they look to qualify for the Super 8s tournament, having previously defeated Associate teams Oman and Namibia in previous matches. They now head into their final group game against South Africa on Friday where a win will secure them a place in Round 2, as well as serving as a big statement victory against an opposition who at times seemed disoriented during this contest.
3. West Indies vs England – ODI Match
Sam Curran returned to form with an unbeaten 58 from Jos Buttler to lead England to victory against West Indies in the second one-day international at Headingley in England. With this result, England secured their first series win since 2006 in England, ending West Indies hopes of qualifying for 2018 World Cup tournament qualification.
After their late collapse left them chasing 326 on an unpredictable pitch, it appeared as though Windies might make a fight of it against Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd’s early breakthroughs and belligerence would slow their charge. Yet Shepherd, joint record holder for highest ninth-wicket partnership ever seen in an ODI, shared an excellent partnership of 104 runs with Alick Athanaze before falling victim to Matthew Forde’s four.
Forde then joined Shai Hope and put together an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 56 to give their side some momentum. Hope even managed to hit two sixes before being caught at short midwicket off Gudakesh Motie.
Buttler reached his fifth fifty of the series with a superb straight drive off Oshane Thomas that just cleared the rope at long on for another boundary, before Romario Shepherd struck with his front foot down and launched Rehan Ahmed’s fourth ball for six straight down the ground to seal an unlikely win for England. England’s batting lineup consisted of Philip Salt, Will Jacks, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (Capt and Wicket Keeper), Liam Livingstone Sam Curran Brydon Carse Matthew Potts Matthew Potts Gus Atkinson; Ollie Pope and John Turner were unfortunately unavailable due to injuries; thus levelling this series with only 1 match remaining to take place before it concludes at Kensington Oval on Wednesday night!
4. West Indies vs England – T20I Match
England made an emphatic start to their Super 8 campaign, dispelling any concerns that they wouldn’t be up for the task of defending their title with an impressive performance against cohosts West Indies. Chasing 181 to win, Jos Buttler and Phil Salt provided them with a steady foundation with their opening stand of 67 runs; eventually Buttler fell victim to Roston Chase flat delivery, caught out for 78. Moeen Ali soon followed, leaving Bairstow alone at number three for the duration.
Following early wickets, England were able to make significant inroads into the Windies tail without conceding too many runs. Chris Woakes returned to form while Akeal Hosein produced 51 dot balls in the Powerplay alone for England. Meanwhile, Windies dropped two chances in slips, as they failed to take full advantage of an ideal pitch that favoured spin bowlers.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite noted that his side were unable to capitalize on their strong start due to poor batting performances, with their bowlers also falling short of expectations. As a result, they will strive to improve their batting and focus on controllables in future matches. Furthermore, it wasn’t an easy game on this surface so they must learn to adapt. He further stated that staying united as a unit and staying mentally tough are vital if they hope to play well against Sri Lanka on Friday and after shocking England during World Cup T20I T20I match.
5. West Indies vs England – Test Match
After Joe Root and Harry Brook scored centuries in the morning session, England appeared poised to retain the Richards-Botham Trophy. But West Indies showed some real fightback; even though they never took control, there was always hope – especially when Alzarri Joseph took 3-19 before lunch.
And that was the turning point in the Test. From that point forward, West Indies batsmen struggled to make any inroads into England’s total while pacemen took advantage of any shaky footwork by tourists, while spinners such as Woakes found more life at the new Stuart Broad End.
As the ball was flying off the pitch, it appeared likely that one of them would strike first. That happened when Woakes found an extra zip to his googly and struck Louis high on his pad for their inaugural wicket in this series.
Woakes quickly took his second wicket in the next over, bowling one that caught off guard the batsman he was facing and ending England’s innings within four days en route to a crushing win and placing themselves in an advantageous position ahead of the third Test.
Ben Stokes led the celebrations as Shoaib Bashir raised the ball aloft to mark his maiden Test five-for and become the first spinner since Muttiah Muralitharan in 2006 to take five wickets at Trent Bridge. Shoaib Bashir clearly looked overjoyed with his performance; surely such an overwhelming triumph must have left him filled with joy? As both teams left Trent Bridge, Shoaib Bashir looked truly overjoyed with this triumphant win that will no doubt give him great satisfaction.
