PBKS recorded another impressive victory by defeating LSG by 37 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday evening, moving them up the IPL table into second place; now only three points behind leaders RCB (who lead with 16 wins and positive net run rate).
PBKS started their innings strongly by winning the toss and opting to bat first, losing Priyansh Arya early, yet Prabhsimran Singh (91 off 48 balls) and Shreyas Iyer (38) put together an outstanding partnership which helped increase their score to 236 runs. Although his strike rate had decreased recently, his performance during this match proved that his form is still strong.
Following an initially slow start, LSG’s chase quickly unravelled when Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram both lost wickets quickly in quick succession. At 83/4 in the ninth over, Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad held on as long as possible before Arshdeep Singh took four wickets to put an end to LSG’s hopes for comeback.
PBKS’ victory put them in a strong position to reach the playoffs, winning six out of 11 matches and posting an NRR of +0.469. Meanwhile, LSG’s defeat severely limited their playoff hopes and reduced them to 10 points from 11 matches and an NRR that is negative; furthermore it also eliminated Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings as contenders for one final playoff place; both only managed three victories each among their eleven matches and were eliminated due to this result; Sunrisers Hyderabad were similarly affected as their NRR dropped below 0.4669 as well.

The game was an intense match as PBKS defeated LSG to inch closer towards the playoffs. Both sides managed a high-scoring affair, scoring 435 runs each; this is an IPL record and represents the highest aggregate score ever achieved at Dharamsala during any match in IPL history. PBKS improved their winning record at this venue and won their seventh match this season for joint second position; LSG however suffered significant setbacks, dropping to seventh spot and facing an uphill struggle attempting to qualify for playoffs.
Rishabh Pant was extremely disappointed in his team’s batting performance against PBKS, noting they gave away too many runs and missed important catches. He insisted however, that hope remains alive as long as they win their next three matches and turn things around.
