Germany and Scotland share an intense rivalry that comes alive at international competitions, where matches become electric affairs with plenty of tension and drama.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann does not anticipate any significant injuries to his squad ahead of Saturday’s Allianz Arena clash against Germany national football team vs Scotland national football team lineups, with Arsenal striker Kai Havertz leading their lineup as expected.
Germany
Both sides see this match as an important opportunity to attain peak form ahead of Euro 2024. Joachim Low’s Germany have begun their recovery after an inconsistent spell, while Scotland’s passionate Tartan Army have given their national team renewed energy through several outstanding performances.
Julian Nagelsmann will make several adjustments to the team that beat Bosnia-Herzegovina on Friday in the UEFA Nations League game, replacing Alexander Nubel, Jonathan Tah, Pascal Gross, Niclas Fullkrug and Deniz Undev with Oliver Baumann, Nico Schlotterbeck Angelo Schulz Aleksandar Pavlovic and Jamie Leweling.
Kai Havertz may make his full international debut after being invited by Nagelsmann. Mainz 05 striker Florian Wirtz, who has scored five goals so far this Bundesliga campaign, could also join Havertz for his full debut appearances for Germany.
Neuer
Neuer is one of the greatest goalkeepers ever, boasting many outstanding statistics during his acclaimed career. Starting his first World Cup at just 22 years old and becoming an instantaneous star at Schalke before ever moving onto other clubs like Bayern.
Neuer has represented his country at four World Cups and four European Championships, helping win one with his performance during 2014. For his outstanding play during that tournament, he received a Golden Glove award.
Neuer may miss Germany’s friendly matches against France and the Netherlands due to an adductor muscle strain, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Bayern Munich could replace him in their starting lineup – marking only the second time since 2024 that Neuer has not been Germany’s primary goalkeeper.
Kimmich
After their dismal World Cup performance, Germany have quickly found success in their Nations League group stage matches since. Now they face Netherlands in what could be an epic match that sends them through to the semi-finals.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side boast an impressive set of young attacking talent from Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry and Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller; however, coach Julian Nagelsmann has yet to select them in his starting XI.
Aleksandar Pavlovic could make his return after an injury-enforced absence, providing another midfield option alongside Gross and Andrich. Stiller or Dortmund-born Maximilian Beier could also provide alternatives – though neither have started for Germany yet.
Tah
Steve Clarke’s side are considered favorites to win Euro 2024, but can cause an upset if necessary. The Tartan Army hopes that they can replicate their summer fairytale of 2006 by going all the way in Munich.
Teams have assembled on the halfway line and are getting ready to perform their national anthems. Both sides appear focused and determined; Andy Robertson appears excited, while Ilkay Gundogan seems calm and collected.
Germany have been forced to do without Aleksandar Pavlovic of Bayern Munich after he was diagnosed with tonsillitis and was therefore ruled out of this tournament. Emre Can from Borussia Dortmund will replace Pavlovic and will join Toni Kroos, starting his first major tournament since 2022. Leroy Sane unfortunately misses out as Arsenal star Kai Havertz is likely to lead their attack alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Robert Andrich.
Rudiger
Rudiger is Germany’s go-to centre back, as well as one of Manchester City’s inspirational figures off of it. A new video released by Under Armour features Rudiger discussing his difficult upbringing in Neukolln – an area with many immigrants – and its effect on him becoming the hardened footballer that he is today.
He then showcases his Under Armour Clone Magnetico Pro 2 boots, featuring flags of Sierra Leone and Germany – his countries of heritage. In their win against Dortmund, they made one tackle (one won) and four clearances – and he hopes that same form will carry over when facing Oranje on Saturday.
Kroos
Kroos has earned multiple trophies and awards as Germany’s Xavi, so his return has been widely celebrated – already showing his worth on the national team team.
Kroos’ first kick-off ball from kick-off set up Wirtz for Germany’s opening goal against France within seven seconds of his first appearance. Together with Gundogan and Musiala, his trio appears set to be formidable opponents.
Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany have the opportunity to prove they can compete for Euro 2024 glory with seven matches under their new coach Julian Nagelsmann. Former Bayern Munich boss has implemented an effective system which brings out the best from players he selects; Germany’s injury situation has shown signs of improvement while Stuttgart winger Aleksandar Pavlovic could feature but has yet to fully recover from his concussion.
Andrich
At Euro 2024’s opening game in Munich, host nation Germany will begin their tournament against a Scotland side eager to cause an upset. Julian Nagelsmann’s side will be looking for a positive performance following dissatisfactory showings at recent tournaments such as group-stage exits at 2018 and 2022 World Cups and losing in Euro 2020’s last-16 stage against England.
German coach Joachim Low has confirmed he will stick with the same lineup that started against Ukraine, including Neuer, Kimmich, Tah and Rudiger in defense for Kroos, Andrich, Musiala and Wirtz in central midfield; Kai Havertz, Gross and Niclas Fullkrug will provide options off the bench.
As the national anthems are played, players are taking their places for the match to begin shortly. Scotland captain Andy Robertson appears particularly animated and focused while Ilkay Gundogan seems calm and collected – just a few moments and it will all begin!
Musiala
Musiala made an early impression upon selecting Germany as his senior international home ahead of England and Italy by scoring twice and creating another goal for Germany at Allianz Arena – earning them their largest ever victory by a host nation at an opening match of an European Championship tournament, while handing Scotland their worst defeat at such competition since Euro 1992.
Toni Kroos will begin his final major tournament before retirement alongside Arsenal winger Kai Havertz and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Emre Can. Kroos and Pavlovic will not feature due to tonsillitis limiting his participation.
Gundogan
Julian Nagelsmann has selected the same starting lineup that started Germany’s last warm-up friendly against Greece for their next friendly. Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Antonio Rudiger and Maximilian Mittelstadt will form Germany’s backline while Toni Kroos and Robert Andrich form central midfield. Ilkay Gundogan and Jamal Musiala will operate behind lone striker Kai Havertz.
Scotland coach Steve Clarke’s squad appears fit and prepared for Friday’s tournament opener against hosts Germany despite some injury setbacks, based on recent head-to-head matches against their opposition and recent head-to-head results against them. A Scotland victory would cause quite an upset!

Wirtz
Germany are set to face Netherlands on Monday in their next UEFA Nations League clash, looking for their second consecutive win since taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier in September. Julian Nagelsmann has already seen two victories during four matches so far and will hope for another success against their European foe.
Nagelsmann plans to give full debuts to several young German players despite injuries to key ones like Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz in this match, including Florian Wirtz who has made headlines during a breakout season for Bayer Leverkusen – becoming the youngest Bundesliga winner ever at just 21. Already earning senior call-ups and scoring twice at youth international level, he can light up games with his clever play and exciting attacking capabilities.
