This match promises to be an intriguing battle between two of the strongest sides in the tournament. After defeating Australia, Netherlands will look to build on their momentum against India.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. India’s top-order batsmen, such as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, put in strong performances. In this article, we will discuss the main points of India National Cricket Team vs Netherlands National Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
India: 411 (Shreyas Iyer 102, KL Rahul 97)
As a cricket fan, your heart races when India are on the field. From Virat Kohli’s audacious drives and MS Dhoni’s match-winning moments – as well as MS Dhoni himself!- to Rishabh Pant’s nearing of becoming India’s youngest Test centurion (and more!). But while you might worship these legends, one more player stands out every day; that being Rishabh Pant who could soon become its youngest Test centurion!
Young Mumbaister Ishant Sharma has led India to huge totals thanks to his prolific run scoring. Additionally, his bowling skills have come in handy and been supported by a formidable bowling attack consisting of Vaibhav Arora, Anshul Kamboj, and Rashik Salam who all possess lethal bowling attacks that have contributed greatly to India’s recent dominance in cricket.
Ajay Sharma has been one of the stand-out players in this squad’s bowling department, taking five wickets in two matches and having the potential to change a game in an instant. Ramandeep Singh and Ayush Badoni have also excelled with their gloves, picking up five wickets between them so far. Both will look to add even more catches during future matches.
Even after an underwhelming start to their series against New Zealand, India still have an opportunity to come out victorious in Colombo if they play to their best in Colombo. Unfortunately, however, game was marred by controversy when New Zealand batswoman Kerr was strangely run out. This happened in the 14th over when she drove a Deepti Sharma delivery towards long-off and chose single instead of run out when Harmanpreet jumped up and appeared to complete run out but the umpire called her back and said ball had died, leaving Indian camp in disbelief while leading to massive chorus of boos from crowd at stadium.
Netherlands: 250 (Teja Nidamanuru 54)
Diwali fireworks at M Chinnaswamy Stadium are nearly in full bloom as Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul continue their assault against Netherlands bowlers to post a mammoth total on the board. Meanwhile, their counterparts in Netherlands are struggling to score runs at their required rate due to Kuldeep and Jadeja’s suppression.
India posted the second highest World Cup total with 411 thanks to an outstanding century from Iyer and an energetic 97 from Rahul, who combined to post an outstanding total. Indian bowlers then used their bowling prowess to dismiss Dutch batsmen for 250 in just 47.5 overs – the second fastest wicket fall ever recorded at a World Cup tournament.
The Dutch began their innings impressively with some eye-catching shots from Max O’Dowd and Colin Ackermann but then lost wickets regularly as their chase faltered. Sybrand Engelbrecht scored 45 runs while Teja Nidamanuru batted bravely to score 54. These performances stood out among their competition.
India’s spinners took control of the match after its openers fell, forcing the batters to struggle for runs. Mohammed Siraj overcame a throat injury suffered during dropping a catch to excel alongside Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.
However, even after losing Wesley Barresi early, the Dutch were in good position as they attempted to establish an early innings lead by the end of powerplay. However, wickets kept falling regularly to put pressure on themselves.
As they needed a record World Cup chase to win, the Dutch began the final session well and quickly raced into their target of 972 runs. But India’s spinners soon put a stopper into their plan by slowing their run chase down.
Rohit Sharma introduced Virat Kohli for the final over of their innings and immediately struck with a delivery bowled down leg that took the edge and saw off Ackermann for 34 runs, taking Dutch scoreline to 75/3 with O’Dowd still present at end of over.
Kuldeep then picks up Van Meekeren when he swings at a full toss and sends him tumbling to the ground, leaving the Netherlands on 250/10 after 47.5 overs.
India: 165 (Shreyas Iyer 102, KL Rahul 97)
India posted an impressive 410-4 score against Netherlands at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to secure their last World Cup league game victory of this tournament, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul both scoring centuries to leave them feeling fully prepared ahead of their semi-final clash with New Zealand on Wednesday.
As soon as they won the toss and sent Dutch bowlers back to their pavilion, their hosts immediately launched into an intense run chase. A brilliant 67-run partnership between captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in powerplay brought them quickly to 119 for 1 in less than 15 overs.
With India facing an elevated asking rate, Iyer and Rahul set about building an impressive 208-run fourth wicket stand to push India past 400 runs at half way mark and secure their position for success in this innings. Both batsmen made sure no boundaries went unhit.
Iyer was eventually dismissed for an outstanding 102 off 94 balls with 11 fours and five sixes during his aggressive innings. Rahul now looks likely to score his fifth ODI century of this tournament and seventh overall to continue India’s momentum.
After Iyer had left, his exit triggered a heated controversy as it appeared that Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was hit on his shoulder by a delivery that came off a Dutch fielder’s boot and struck Harmanpreet on his shoulder – prompting umpires to refer the incident for third umpire review, who found evidence that Harmanpreet had indeed been struck on that area and when watching replay, became visibly upset and approached on-field umpires to question their decision before reaching them to make their decision known.
Netherlands: 179 (Sybrand Engelbrecht 45)
Netherlands struggled to get going against Indian bowlers but were kept alive by Sybrand Engelbrecht’s well-timed innings, scoring an unbeaten 78 to help guide his side from an initial score of 82-5 to 245-8 (43 overs were reduced due to rain).
Alex Kervezee and Wesley Barresi were dismissed early, yet managed to form an unbroken partnership of 142 runs for the second wicket. Ryan Ten Doeschate also impressed, scoring an outstanding century before being caught at long-on by Vivian Kingma off Ravindra Jadeja and caught at long-on.
Even after such a poor start, Dutch batsmen remained positive and attempted to build partnerships. Unfortunately for them in the 27th over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled an angled delivery that hit Aryan Dutt’s stumps and caused him to cry “Caught Behind!” which was eventually disapproved upon close scrutiny by umpire.
Jasprit Bumrah continued his spell, taking another wicket with Aryan Dutt being caught at mid-off off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling delivery. Next up was Rohit Sharma who bowled five deliveries before getting his key wicket of Teja Nidamanuru caught lbw off delivery number five.
Netherlands were in trouble at 179-7 and needed some quick firepower to turn things around quickly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz then struck an impressive six off the first ball of the 49th over, providing hope to their batters who were confident as they chased small scores aided by Lucknow’s supportive pitch.
