Origin
The history of Sikkim cricket dates back to the early 1930s when the British Everest expedition camped at Lachen in North Sikkim. To while away their time the expedition members decided to play a game of cricket.
They used umbrellas for wickets and socks for balls. The match was played between two teams of porters comprising European and Nepalese members. This was the first recorded cricket match in Sikkim and the highest ever level of the game to be played at such an altitude.
The Sikkim Cricket Association was established in 1987 under the leadership of Jasbir Singh and N K Pradhan with the primary aim of promoting, encouraging and improving the standard of cricket in Sikkim. Since 1990-91, the state has been an Associate Member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sikkim participates in all BCCI national level tournaments for Men and Women including the prestigious Ranji Trophy.

The team entered the competition as an outsider and was placed in the Plate group, where it finished 5th out of 9. The next year, the team played the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where it won its only match against Manipur.
