History
Australia has an extensive cricketing tradition dating back to 1862 when cricket first arrived here. In March 1877, Australia defeated an English touring side at Melbourne Cricket Ground and thus initiated The Ashes competition between them both, which continues today as one of their major international rivalries.
Australia experienced its inaugural golden era of test and white-ball cricket around the turn of the 20th century, when players such as Don Bradman set unmatched batting records that remain unbroken today.
