Shanto continues his attempt at taking one but misses. In this article, we will discuss the main points of Bangladesh national cricket team vs India national cricket team match scorecard.
Bangladesh vs India
Opening day of the first Test between India and Bangladesh began with much excitement. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and decided to bowl first, selecting a pitch which seemed suitable for pace and spin bowlers alike.
India’s top order was quickly reduced to pieces under pressure by Hasan Mahmud’s three wickets at lunch. Yashasvi Jaiswal (37) and Rishabh Pant (33) continued their partnership of over 80 runs to stabilize India’s innings and save their innings from collapse.
Both batsmen were helped by the quick bounce available at MA Chidambaram Stadium, as they displayed patience as Bangladesh bowlers struggled to find their line and length.
As Jaiswal collected a single off the final ball of Hasan’s over, their partnership reached 88 and looked poised to take control of the match from their visitors, Taskin Ahmed abruptly broke their partnership by bowling a short ball that hit Jadeja on the edge of her bat before falling straight to gully fielder Litton Das for a simple catch behind the stumps.
Shakib Al Hasan delivered another stunning ball which saw Ashwin stumped off in similar fashion after playing defensive shots on the final delivery from Taskin. Ashwin tried dragging on it but failed to generate any turn. Finally he attempted a defensive shot which Taskin swiftly sent back for another over.
In the final over of the day, both teams exchanged boundaries evenly. Jadeja came close to hitting triple figures when she hit an incredible boundary off Rana’s final ball of her over, but had to settle for just a single as their two looked set for an impressive total.
India recovered from being reduced to 144/6 before recovering to 339/6 with Ravichandran Ashwin (102*) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) leading the charge, sharing a 195-run partnership that turned the tide of battle in their favour. They will look to maintain this success during Test 2.
India won the toss and bowled first
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have reinvigorated India’s innings and put the hosts back in control at Chepauk. They shared an impressive 195-run stand before stumps were drawn, leaving India well placed to post another strong total at Chepauk.
Early on, Hasan Mahmud of Bangladesh took early wickets to apply pressure to India but were quickly countered by Yashsvi Jaiswal’s half century and steady batting from Rishabh Pant, helping reduce any threat posed by Bangladesh. Gautam Gambhir and Rohit appeared dismayed as India plummeted as low as 12/4 during morning session play.
But Yashsvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant have been in good form at the crease, taking their time in building a partnership that should break quickly for India. Breaking it quickly would be key for their opponents.
Hasan Mahmud continues to strike fear into Indian batsmen with his pace, taking four wickets so far and keeping their opponents under pressure through some innovative bowling.
Kohli attempts to drive a ball outside off, but the shot instead falls straight into the hands of Chepauk’s wicketkeeper-batsman and fans applaud his efforts.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz dished up an excellent over. His consistent line and length limited run-flow, while Akash Deep contributed with two runs to maintain run-rate.
Taskin Ahmed began this over with a tighter line and length, striking some seam movement into the pitch as he delivered some tight balls that reached Soumya Sarkar for 13 runs and out at his outside edge, Litton Das also becoming a victim as Bangladesh suffered three top wickets within three overs.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal have established an excellent partnership at the crease. They hope to reach 300 runs and pose difficulty for Bangladesh bowlers; whilst hoping to steal additional boundaries to maintain India’s run flow.
India won the match by 60 runs
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja created a record seventh-wicket partnership of 195 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to steer India out of trouble and establish an advantaged stance during Test cricket at this venue. It remains India’s highest ever seventh wicket stand.
Bangladesh’s spinners found life difficult on an uneven pitch that offered little in terms of turn or pace, yet managed to keep scores down as visitors India posted an impressive first innings total of 308 runs before stumps. Bangladesh reached stumps at an unlikely total of 142 for nine and secured victory with India having scored 308 runs first in their innings.
India’s fast bowlers put on an impressive show. Shivam Dube took two wickets while Siraj Axar and Hardik Pandya all contributed with one each.
However, the visitors were unable to mount an effective chase on an uneven wicket and were dismissed for only 122 in their second innings.
Hasan Mahmud of Bangladesh made a stunning impactful debut by taking three wickets early on to destabilise India’s top order, sending back Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal back into their respective pavilions while Zakir Hasan caught KL Rahul with a brilliant catch.
Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan could not gain any momentum with their bowling. Rana bowled fuller length deliveries that angled away from off to cause Jadeja to miscue his shot and lose the outside edge.
It was an elegant stroke from Jadeja and Ashwin that cemented their 150-run partnership, as the ball flew high into the air before the keeper returned from his half to complete a catch.
India’s pacemen made quick work of Bangladesh throughout the afternoon session. Taskin Ahmed took early strike with his new ball before Axar Patel, Siraj and Hardik all collected one wicket each.
India took full advantage of their dominance to secure an emphatic win that left Bangladesh’s visitors thinking hard ahead of their tour to America. India secured a three-match series victory and improved to 10-5 against Bangladesh in Tests, also moving them up into fourth position on the ICC Test rankings.
Hasan Mahmud stood out as the star performer for the visitors, tearing through India’s top order with his wobble-seam line and length to take three wickets during the first session – including KL Rahul who fell victim to Zakir Hasan later on in the game.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant continue to show strength at the crease for India as they look to score quick runs, giving India an excellent position at half way mark of first day of match.
