Ranji Trophy Group-C
Gujarat have won four Ranji Trophy matches against Eden Gardens since Gujarat first joined this competition, while they are yet to win in Kolkata yet in this tournament despite taking an initial innings lead against Assam. On this ground where their batsmen tend to score big runs, visitors look forward to taking this game deep and scoring big runs against their hosts on this pitch where batsmen tend to do so well.
They may miss key players like Priyank Panchal and Abhishek Desai but expect Manan Hingrajia, Jaymeet Patel Urvil Patel Aarya Desai score big scores on this surface whereas pacer Arzan Nagaswalla and spinner Ravi Bishnoi will play their part as well.
Mohammad Shami will look to continue his good form after collecting seven wickets against Services, with help from Ishan Porel, Akash Deep and Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal providing Bengal with an opportunity to score past 300 on this pitch.
Gujarat boast a young team and their senior openers will rely heavily on Aarya Desai, Jaymeet Patel, Urvil Desai and their skipper to score big runs on this surface. Aarya Desai scored an impressive 96 on debut against Assam; now looking to add to that total and establish himself even further on Ranji debut! However, Gujarat will need their lower middle order batsmen to contribute as well.
Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season kicks off across India on October 15 with 38 teams competing in both Elite and Plate divisions; Vidarbha is expected to start as favourites this time around.
The Indian cricket board created the Ranji Trophy in 1934 and it initially featured eight teams until 1956-57 when zones and more teams were added into contention. Nonetheless, early Ranji Tournaments proved immensely successful and are widely seen as being responsible for giving birth to Indian cricket as we know it today.
