2. ODIs

One-day internationals (ODIs) are an established format of cricket where each side bats twice during one match day and form part of the International Cricket Council’s official calendar. Also commonly referred to as twenty20 internationals (T20I), an ODI offers players two innings against two opponents at the same time in one day.

ODI (One Day International) cricket matches have been played worldwide for decades and have garnered widespread international popularity.

A favorite choice among tournament organizers, ODI matches require less time than test matches to complete while still permitting more players to take part in them.

While initially created in English, over the years their rules have been translated into numerous other languages as they remain an international standard that must be approved by the International Cricket Council before changes take effect.

India and South Africa will begin playing five ODIs against each other starting November 30. All matches will take place at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg; with the first match starting at 19:00 local time on Tuesday; second and third matches held on Thursday and Friday respectively; final ODI scheduled to commence at 21:00 on Saturday.

Both teams are expected to play aggressively in the ODI series and strive for a 2-1 victory. Rohit Sharma should return after being rested for the Test series, and Aiden Markram is set to rejoin his Protea teammates including Dewald Brevis, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen George Linde Kwena Maphaka David Miller Nandre Burger Anrich Nortje & Lungi Ngidi amongst many others on tour with South Africa.

Indian cricketers are expected to perform strongly in ODIs against South Africa after winning four out of the last five encounters between these teams, thanks to Virat Kohli returning and Abhishek Sharma joining Abhishek, Shubman Gill Axar Patel Hardik Pandya Rahul Shetty joining in this series as well.

3. T20Is

India and South Africa will compete in five T20Is between March 15-25. It marks their 36th meeting, with India winning 21 of these matches while South Africa claimed 13 victories. Furthermore, this marks South Africa’s first visit since 2024 for such an encounter.

The Proteas have announced an altered squad for this series, incorporating notable additions like batsman Connor Esterhuizen and all-rounder Dian Forrester; bowler Eathan Bosch and teenage seamer Nqobani Mokoena make their debuts; furthermore South Africa have left behind some key players from their T20 World Cup participation for this tour.

South Africa will aim to make amends for their heartbreaking seven-run loss against India at the inaugural T20 World Cup 2024, hoping that fresh blood in their squad can help reignite their campaign and get it underway again.

India currently sits fourth in the rankings and will look to build on their impressive start this season. They hope that Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja can continue their performances at home where this format has proven itself most effective for them.

Rohit Sharma scored an unprecedented 81 sixes from just 62 balls to break Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time record of 80 sixes in an innings and join his fellow countrymen Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli in reaching 100 sixes – becoming only the fastest player ever to reach this mark – as he also became the fastest scorer to 20,000 runs internationally and tied Sachin Tendulkar as joint top ODI scorer.

Hardik Pandya reached the milestone of 100 T20I wickets taken, placing him second only to Lasith Malinga from Sri Lanka. Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy and Jasprit Bumrah all shared one wicket each while Yashasvi Jaiswal made history by scoring his maiden ODI century as India reached 374/7.
