CSK: MS Dhoni (c), Shaik Rasheed, Andre Siddarth C, Ravindra Jadeja, Vijay Shankar
Chennai Super Kings will face five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians in an explosive clash at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Both teams have struggled this season but hope that meeting up may provide them with an opportunity to break their duck and gain some form.
Come join the excitement as the game gets underway at 7:30 PM IST! Don’t miss it – come be part of all the excitement!
MS Dhoni has made an explosive return and is off to a flying start with two fours in his opening over. He slashed through the covers for one boundary before sending one over midwicket for the other fours he hit during powerplay batting.
Avesh Khan will be up first as Dhoni faces him off against some challenging bowling attacks.
Shaik Rasheed made his IPL debut for CSK and immediately hit off to an impressive start, scoring a boundary off his second ball and propelling them ahead with some classy strokes.
Rachin Ravindra too got off to an excellent start for the visitors with an outstanding straight drive shot off ball number 2.
These two shared an outstanding opening partnership, helping CSK race ahead to an impressive 50 run advantage within just 4.2 overs.
After some early brilliance from LSG’s spinner trio of Digvesh Bishnoi and Zaheer Khan’s middle overs slowdown, things quickly came unraveled again for CSK.
Ayush Badoni surviveds an appeal against Jadeja for being given out LBW; an umpire had initially ruled he had touched the ball but DRS showed otherwise.
Shortly thereafter he edged one through third man for four and hit one through the covers for six – providing crucial runs when need be.
Shivam Dube was then brought on to complete the job and did so flawlessly, smashing a six and four off his final two deliveries to give CSK a massive win and end their losing streak in this tournament.
LSG’s spinners had difficulty, even with Pant’s brilliant late strokeplay; unfortunately it resulted in their sixth consecutive home loss and snapped their three-match winning run against CSK.
LSG: Ravi Bishnoi (wk), Rachin Ravindra, Aiden Markram
CSK were left reeling by the collapse of their top order against KKR in their previous game and must show tangible improvement at the back.
Their bowling strengths last time included Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan while fast bowlers Akash Deep and Digvesh Rathi have further strengthened the side.
Chennai Super Kings proved themselves formidable spin bowlers as they bowled KKR out for just 103 at Chepauk.
Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram could do little against Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Ravi Bishnoi’s trio of bowlers from Chennai Super Kings – none were able to make an impactful comeback against Thakur, Chahar, or Bishnoi’s delivery.
LSG had also shown some resistance through Shaik Rasheed, Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway; with Devon making his debut for them after performing well with India Under-19 during Asia Cup play.
At present, openers are struggling for runs at an unsustainable rate and need big innings against a powerful Chennai Super Kings team in order to remain relevant in the game.
Khaleel bowled an excellent over, conceding only five runs off it and then picked up the wicket of Pooran – after an ambitious drive against short ball got caught by Dhoni in the ring by Dhoni! – in his next over.
Mitch Marsh has quickly found his groove after an indifferent start to the innings. He smashes a full toss over long-off for six and then hit another over midwicket for another four.
That innings produced 40 runs from 39 balls against spinners; his best performance this season against spinners.
Pant and Dube have already put CSK ahead, with Pant putting CSK ahead in terms of runs scored so far, while middle-order batsmen are struggling.
Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni must provide support in the death overs, scoring at an increased pace over the next few overs.
Ayush Badoni
Right-handed batter Ayush Badoni has quickly established himself as one of India’s most promising young T20 players, often being likened to AB de Villiers in terms of scoring ability and quick scores at quick rates.
Playing for India under-19s before going unsold at the 2022 IPL auction, LSG picked him up upon Gautam Gambhir’s suggestion as team mentor and picked up Ayush as part of their squad.
Since joining Gujarat Titans, he has showcased powerful performances for their franchise. Known for his creative shot selection and long game ability, in a recent match against them he made 41-ball 54 before hitting an exceptional six over cover to seal victory for his side.
Youngster Dhawan will face an enormous test against CSK’s experienced batting lineup in this matchup, but has done well previously and hopes to build upon that success.
Badoni will be an integral component of LSG’s lineup and should play an instrumental role in any late run chases.
He scored an amazing 165-ball 84 against Gujarat Titans – scoring and being named man of the match – before scoring 50+ runs against CSK but wasn’t quite as prolific; hopefully his form can repeat itself here.
Ayush Badoni makes his mark early on by hitting his first six of the match! Pitch wide by Overton and slower ball was hit over covers for six!
Massive wicket for CSK! Nicholas Pooran has been outed for 8 runs with Anshul Kamboj’s brilliant trap on his pads; there was an enormous appeal, but the umpire didn’t grant it.
With confidence in Anshul convincing Dhoni to go for DRS review and be successful he is off the mark!
Right-hander Vijay Willson will be eager to make an impressionful statement at CSK. Coming off an impressive Ranji Trophy season for Tamil Nadu where he amassed four half centuries, Vijay Willson became an extremely popular pick at the 2025 IPL auction and will seek guidance from MS Dhoni himself.
