It has quickly become one of the world’s most watched T20 tournaments due to its high-quality cricket attracting audiences around the globe.
2022 IPL will introduce two new franchises based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. RPSG Group and CVC Capital won bids through closed bidding for these franchises at Rs7,000 crore each, with Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans as team names respectively.
A unique feature of IPL 2022’s format will allow all 10 teams to compete as virtual groups of five during league stage play, seeded according to how often each team has reached or won a final.
Lucknow Super Giants have assembled an experienced squad this season, including South African left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen and former Pakistan captain Mohammad Amir from South Africa and Afghanistan respectively, while also boasting an accomplished domestic bench featuring captain Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler among their roster members.

Virat Kohli led all scorers with 420 runs across eight matches; breaking records for most fours in one game while breaking another to claim most fours ever in an individual match and wining most points with 60 for Sunrisers.
IPL has become one of the most watched sporting events in India with over 620 million viewers tuning in each week, thanks to live streaming which has increased fan engagement and ticket sales; as well as growing attendance figures at cricket matches. Furthermore, this year saw over 41,000 tickets being sold in Kolkata alone on opening day alone!
Even with record viewership figures, some critics remain dissatisfied with the quality of IPL. Some commentators have claimed that the league is becoming too commercial, with teams signing huge sponsorship contracts; while others point out that the competition should take place on an equal playing field.
This year’s IPL 2024 features an unconventional format with two groups and seedings, and six matches in each group played within them. At the conclusion of each group stage, four teams from each will qualify for playoffs held in Ahmedabad and Chennai while any remaining two will play an Eliminator match that will determine who qualifies.
IPL 2025
IPL 2025 marks India’s twenty-fourth edition of its premier Twenty20 cricket league. Set to kick off on March 29, 2025 and run through May 24, 2025, 10 teams will participate with four qualifying for playoffs, beginning with match one on May 29 against losing team Qualifier 1. Final playoff match will take place June 3.
The 2025 Indian Premier League will take place across various venues. Some matches will take place at Eden Gardens while others at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium will be broadcast live via JioStar.
As part of its tournament schedule, this tournament will also feature several double header matches at both afternoon and evening timeslots; these matches will begin at 3:30 PM for afternoon matches and 7:30 PM for evening games respectively. There will also be double header games held at National Stadium Delhi.
