Batting

The Chhattisgarh state cricket team represents the Indian state of Chhattisgarh in first-class and List A cricket tournaments. As one of several expansion teams granted full-member status by the BCCI in 2016, Chhattisgarh made its debut in senior competitions during the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season. The team plays its home matches at the 49,000-capacity Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium.

Jalaj Saxena, left-handed batsman who is also a leg-break bowler. He was part of the Kerala squad that lost to Chhattisgarh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy final in Delhi in 2016. It was the first time the brothers Jalaj and Jatin played against each other in a List A match.

Bowling

Chhattisgarh made their debut in first-class cricket in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season and won their opening match of the group stage against Tripura. Sahil Gupta and Amandeep Khare were instrumental in the victory, both scoring responsible hundreds to put up a competitive total of 364-9.

Gupta took his time and hit a few glorious drives and flicks, while Khare was nifty in front of the wicket and didn’t shy away from using his feet to spinners. However, NS Chaturved eventually broke their partnership and ended their impressive unbeaten stand of 178 runs.

The team plays its home matches at the 49,000-capacity SVNS International Cricket Stadium. The team also has a few other venues that can host first-class matches, including the ICGC Ground in Raipur and the Mohd Kaif Cricket Stadium in Nayagaon.

Off-spinners

With Ravichandran Ashwin rested and Kuldeep Yadav likely to miss the one-off Test against Afghanistan, there is a rare opportunity for a spinner to make his India debut. Among those in the running are Vidarbha’s Harsh Dubey and Rajasthan’s Manav Suthar. Both are able to take wickets at will with their deceptive off-breaks and variations of pace.

The left-armer from Coimbatore has a good mix of pace and variation and is a very economical bowler. He was excellent against Jharkhand, taking two wickets in three overs and costing only 10 runs. The right-arm spinner also possesses good pace when required. The former Bengal captain has the ability to change the pace and is a very reliable option for any side.

He made his debut for India A against Sri Lanka in 2025-26 and has taken 17 wickets from four matches. His best performance came against Bangladesh A, where he took eight wickets in a match at Nagpur.

He has a good record against the batsmen from the North-East, having claimed six wickets in his last three games. He has the ability to vary his pace and keep it very low, which can be a big plus for any team. He has also shown he can be economical when required, which will help him in the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

He has also proved his versatility by bowling well in domestic T20 cricket. He has a solid arm action and a good line of run-up. He has the potential to be a quality spinner for India in the future.

Wicketkeepers

A good wicketkeeper has excellent footwork, is comfortable in the crouch position and has excellent hand-eye coordination. They also communicate well with the fielders and bowlers. Wicketkeepers should ideally be positioned outside the line of off stump to see the ball clearly.

Amandeep Khare was on top form for Chhattisgarh as he helped them to 261/4 against Bengal on the first day of their Ranji Trophy match in Kalyani. He shared a 136-run stand with A Chauhan and ensured that the hosts were in control at the end of the day’s play.

Parvez Rasool continued his fine run with the bat as he dominated for Jammu and Kashmir against Goa in their Group C match in Jamshedpur. He scored 67 before returning to claim four wickets and put his team in the driver’s seat at the halfway stage. The Chhattisgarh Cricket Team will also look to build strong performances in domestic cricket and establish itself as a competitive side.
