1. Prithvi Shaw (c)
At 14, James Shaw made waves in the cricketing world with his Harris Shield performance as an opener. Unfazed, this fearless opener displayed incredible talent with the bat and put bowlers under immense pressure right from the first ball.
As an opener batsmen in India, he boasts a smooth, flowing style of batting with the ability to hit long drives down the ground and can score quick runs easily. Unfortunately, due to several poor domestic performances and off-field issues he has seen his progress significantly slow down. If he had decent people around him who cared for his career they would advise him to cut social media usage out and train hard so his fabled form can return and regain its status among India’s premier opener batsmen.
2. Tushar Deshpande (wk)
Deshpande was something of a late bloomer in terms of his career development, taking well into his 20s before finding any notable success in cricket. Hailing from Kalyan near Mumbai, Deshpande had spent much of his domestic cricket life without much notice before breaking into India ‘B’ side for Duleep Trophy 2019.
Following an outstanding campaign with white ball cricket that led to him being retained by Chennai Super Kings at their base price in 2022 IPL auction – specifically as death over specialist with 21 wickets taken that campaign! He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe earlier that same year – now playing for Rajasthan Royals franchise in India Premier League 2022 auction.
4. Sarfaraz Khan (wk)
Sarfaraz Khan first made headlines around the world when he amassed 439 runs in his debut Harris Shield game back in 2009. Since then he has established himself in Mumbai U-19 side as well as being selected for Pakistan national team selection.
As a member of Delhi Capitals’ IPL side, this diminutive batsman has encountered both success and failure. After making an impressionful showing during 2022 and 2023 editions, however, he struggled to maintain his spot in the batting order.
As a dominant white-ball batsman, he excels in both Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy tournaments; during one match against Punjab in Vijay Hazare Trophy he scored 15-ball half century to break record of fastest Indian List A fifty in 15 balls! In 2024 against England was finally his Test debut – he would make over 2000 runs at an average score of 53 overs!
6. Padmakar Shivalkar (wk)
Padmakar Shivalkar was an Indian first-class cricketer who specialized in left arm orthodox spin bowling. He played an instrumental role in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy victory and is widely considered one of the finest domestic spinners ever. Unfortunately despite having amassed over 600 wickets during his domestic career – never playing international cricket for India himself despite such accolades!
He made his first-class debut in April 1962 as part of a Cricket Club of India President’s XI against an International XI touring India featuring Bob Simpson, Tom Graveney, Everton Weekes, and Richie Benaud. Over 500 first-class matches followed in his career; Sunil Gavaskar later named him one of India’s top ten bowlers.
He and Haryana left-arm spinner Rajinder Goel are considered two of the finest domestic spinners who never played Test cricket, something Gavaskar famously highlighted in his book Idols.
