Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy is the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. It was founded in 1934-1935 and named after Ranjitsinhji, a former Indian prince and pioneer of the game. It is a multi-stage competition that culminates in a knockout-style playoff. Each year, the tournament features several rounds of matches between teams representing regional and state cricket associations.
DHARAMSALA: Delhi produced another inept batting performance on Monday to lose their match against Baroda and dash their hopes of qualifying for the Ranji Trophy knockouts. On a docile track at the Airforce Stadium, young Delhi batters struggled to counter swing bowling from the home side. Yash Dhull was the only batsman to pass 40 as wickets fell at regular intervals with Atit Seth (3/39) and Bhargav Bhatt (3/17) sharing the spoils.
A key message from the modern Ranji Trophy is that it has diversified and showcases a wider competitive ecosystem beyond historic powerhouses. This does not replace a full pipeline study, but it is a strong domestic signal that high-end red-ball performance is no longer clustered in just a few traditional associations.
Vijay Hazare Trophy
The BCCI has made it mandatory for all current national players to play at least two one-day matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy that begins on December 24. With a three-week gap between India’s final T20I against South Africa and the start of the first ODI against New Zealand, the Board wants the players to use this window to hone their domestic skills. The directive has been conveyed to the players by the Selection Committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.
The national selectors are confident that the senior players will not find any excuse and play the tournament. Several players have already communicated their availability, including veterans like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The board is also keen that the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya should make full use of this opportunity to strengthen their state teams.
Little-known left-arm spinner Shivang Kumar took five wickets to help Madhya Pradesh register a seven-wicket victory over Karnataka and secure a quarterfinal berth in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Openers Yash Dubey and Himanshu Mantri shared a solid 78-run stand to give their side an excellent start before Devdutt Padikkal’s resolute 95-ball hundred was finally ended by Shivang’s delivery.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is an annual cricket competition for Indian domestic teams. It is named after a former Pakistani cricketer and is played in the format of Twenty20. The tournament is hosted by different states of India, with the winner being crowned champions of the tournament. This year, the tournament was held in Gujarat and won by Mumbai after beating Himachal Pradesh in the final. The match was played at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The first two wickets fell cheaply as opener Kedar Devdhar (26) and Smit Patel (34) were both caught at point by Arun Karthik. However, Vishnu Solanki fought back with a well-judged 59 off just 51 balls. His unbeaten effort along with a whirlwind 17-ball 34 by Abhimanyusingh Rajput set up Baroda a decent total.
Baroda are now in a strong position to win this game and are just a few runs short of their target. The batsmen are making a steady progress and the target is within sight for Dinesh Karthik and company.
Baba Aparajith picks up the first wicket for TN as Ninad Rathva mistimes the ball and finds Arun Karthik at point to give away an easy catch. TN are now down to 2/9 in the second over.
Earlier, opener Mandeep Singh hit an unbeaten 99 as Punjab trounced Tripura by five wickets in their Elite Group A match. This was their fifth victory in the tournament and also secured a quarter-final berth. Karnataka remained in the hunt for a last-eight spot as they restricted Uttar Pradesh to 132/8 in their Elite Group B match.
Despite losing both their first-innings wickets, Rajasthan stayed in the contest as left-arm spinner Amit Mishra and right-arm medium pacer Ankit Sharma took three each. In reply, Hyderabad could only manage 139 for eight in their 20 overs. This was mainly due to the good bowling performance of Jharkhand who bowled very disciplined. They restricted Hyderabad to a below-par score and also picked up three wickets each in the process.
Nissar Trophy
The Nissar Trophy is a four-day first-class competition between the domestic champions of India and Pakistan. It is named in honour of Mohammad Nissar, the founder of the Karachi Urban Cricket Club. The inaugural match was played in 2006–07, and Uttar Pradesh won the title with a 316-run victory over Sialkot.
It was 36 years ago that Rajasthan last won the national title, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar’s determined group of batsmen will hope to add this to their résumé when they face Baroda at the Moti Bagh pitch on Tuesday.
Both sides have a proven set of domestic batsmen, promising an entertaining encounter. Fans following the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Team Vs Baroda Cricket Team Match Scorecard can check the match details, team performances, and results to stay updated on the contest.
