QB Arch Manning

Arch Manning, the sophomore quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, comes from a legendary football lineage. He is the son of Cooper and Ellen Manning and nephew to Peyton and Eli Manning; Arch has made himself into one of their top-tier quarterbacks with impressive field vision, strong arms and under-pressure performance capabilities.

Even in defeat, there were still numerous bright spots for Texas Longhorns. First-year coach Steve Sarkisian has assembled an impressive group that are showing some consistency under his watch. Their defense played well as well; Arch Manning made several key plays during this game.

Longhorns offense struggled to find any momentum against Florida Gators’ defense; however, Texas defense managed to restrict UF to only three points in the first half and force two turnovers – providing Texas with momentum going into their next game against Arkansas.

After an uneven start, Texas responded with a 6-play, 75-yard drive that culminated with Trey Smack kicking a 38-yard field goal. But Florida turned around quickly as Dallas Wilson scored on two 56- and 55-yard touchdown passes for Florida; breaking their six-game losing streak against Longhorns with this win.

Texas attempted a late comeback, with just two minutes remaining, when Peyton Manning’s helmet came off during a sack by Jordan Castell. Unfortunately for Texas, this drive stalled, giving Florida enough time to seal their victory and run out the clock for their victory.

Manning was sacked five times during the game and Florida’s defense recorded eight quarterback hurries against him, yet still managed to complete 21 out of 28 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing 37 yards himself.

To remain competitive with SEC’s best teams, Texas must improve both its turnover margin and offensive execution to stay in contention; otherwise they risk falling far behind their rivals.

RB Quintrevion Wisner

Quintrevion Wisner, a junior running back for Texas Longhorns football team, has taken an important role this year as its starting running back. One of the premier runners in college football, Wisner has amassed over 1,000 yards in his career while scoring multiple touchdowns; his contributions proved instrumental during their win against Colorado State.

He also brings an effective passing game, making him an asset to any offensive unit. Last season he caught 57 passes for over 500 yards and eight touchdowns – showing an excellent combination of agility, strong leg, quick step, short game threat and punt returner potential.

Even after losing to Florida, Texas has shown significant progress on their turnover front this season. They have forced four turnovers already which is an excellent beginning, yet still need to find more ways to create one more turnover per game than their opponents.

In 2024, Texas allowed too many tackles for loss – ranking 29th out of 32 schools with 114 total tackles for loss. This year however, they are allowing half as many TFLs while their offensive line has also helped decrease negative plays significantly.

The Gators started the second quarter on an upswing thanks to Jadan Baugh’s 5-yard touchdown run, then extended their advantage with kicker Trey Smack’s 34-yard field goal. Unfortunately for Florida quarterback DJ Lagway though, he suffered an injured knee after getting sacked by defensive end Brien Taylor and had to leave due to being knocked unconscious during play by Brien Taylor’s defensive end Brien Taylor; therefore backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell took over and connected with wide receiver Ryan Wingo for 26-yard gain on drive that took them into Texas territory 45.

At 3:52 of the first half, Florida linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith lost control of a fumble that Texas’ Jordan Hill Jr. recovered. Texas then mounted an 11-play, 69-yard drive, culminating in Arch Manning throwing 13-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Wilson for 13 yard touchdown play. Taylor Spierto blocked punt for Florida which added one safety. With 19-7 lead at halftime.

WR Ryan Wingo

Texas Longhorns have proven themselves an efficient running team and strong passing offense in recent seasons, while also making significant strides forward on special teams and defense.

This success has enabled them to remain among the best teams nationwide on both defense and offense – particularly on the road – winning 15 games over five seasons and appearing in two bowls while Texas’ participation in 2024 College Football Playoff semifinals enabled its players to play additional redshirt seasons than before, when any game played “burned” one’s redshirt season.

Florida held Texas to an ineffective 3-for-13 third down performance and forced two turnovers in the second half, but their defense could not prevent freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson’s outstanding play, who caught six passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns despite their best efforts.

Both teams scored touchdowns in the opening quarter, but Florida took an early 10-0 advantage with a 13-play drive capped off by Jadan Baugh’s 5-yard touchdown run for Florida. Texas struggled on their next drive and eventually had to punt.

On Florida’s subsequent punt, Texas linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith forced Aidan Mizell of Florida to fumble, which was recovered by safety Michael Taaffe for a safety. Texas used their takeaway advantage by finding Wisner for a 6-yard touchdown pass, cutting their deficit down to 19-7 at halftime.

Texas’ defense has struggled to generate turnovers so far this season, yet is showing some encouraging signs. They only turned the ball over once against Ohio State last season; coach Steve Sarkisian would like his team to generate at least one extra turnover than their opponents per game.

Longhorns punting has also seen considerable improvement, ranking 31st nationally last season and now 15th in the SEC with an average distance per punt average. Jack Bouwmeester ranks 15th for SEC punting average with his 46.5 average distance per punt averages.
