Nepal National Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard

Windies bowlers started off well but found themselves struggling to match Nepal’s run rate thereafter. Due to dropped catches and some stellar fielding from Nepal – led by Airee and Bhurtel – the Windies found it increasingly difficult to rotate strike.

Nepal celebrated a historic moment in the Nepal National Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard as they recorded their first-ever victory against a full ICC member nation.

The win marked a major milestone for Nepal cricket, with the team delivering a memorable performance through disciplined bowling and strong batting. This historic victory showed Nepal’s growing strength on the international cricket stage.

1. Dipendra Singh Airee (c)

Nepal must do more than simply remain in the competition if they hope to complete an unlikely upset against England in their previous match; they will need two wins from their remaining three matches to guarantee themselves a top-four finish.

Dipendra Singh Airee’s well-timed innings has helped Nepal increase the scoring rate after an indifferent start. He hit his maiden six by lofting a short and wide delivery from Shamar Joseph over backward point, then went on to smash Jason Holder for three consecutive boundaries down the off side during one over of their 18th over, which proved costly as it has cost them the most runs so far.

Nepalese fans are celebrating Nepal’s historic victory against one of the Test-playing nations in T20 cricket for the very first time – something which will surely be celebrated across their nation.

West Indies have put up an impressive performance so far in this match against Nepal, taking control of proceedings almost from the get-go. They had numerous chances to overpower Nepal with their batsmen but failed to exploit these opportunities effectively.

Aarif Sheikh goes for a big hit, looking to end his partnership. Unfortunately, his shot goes straight towards midwicket where Matthew Forde holds onto it with ease. West Indies continue to dominate this match as their bowlers regularly pick up wickets – giving them a good chance at qualifying for Super Eights.

2. Sompal Kami (wk)

Sompal Kami was the sole player to play all four matches, yet his performance fell below expectations. The wicketkeeper batsman scored only 73 runs during the tournament with three fours and two sixes; his selection was based on his success in NPL qualifiers as well.

But his debut in the World Cup has been disappointing. In his opening over, he was out for singles before being run out in his second over. A few overs later, Karan KC offered another caught and bowled chance when an attempted straight drive clipped his gloves and fell into Monank Paudel’s hands at long-off.

Kami managed to rebound quickly, leading the team to score an impressive total against an imposing USA side in their next match against Scotland – but this would prove crucial for his and Nepal’s fates.

He showed some encouraging signs in a match against Scotland, scoring an unbeaten 43 off 35 balls (1 four and 4 sixes). But his good form didn’t last against England, Italy or West Indies where he struggled to score big.

His innings was marked by an impressive knock in which he managed to clear the deep east side boundary on his way to a 40-ball fifty, but unfortunately was unable to repeat this in Super Over, leading him down an unfortunate route on his 30th birthday.

Mukkamalla assisted him during this innings with an 85-run partnership in the final 10 overs – similar to their opening game against Namibia – but in the end was not enough to prevent USA from evening up the series with a win.

3. Aarif Sheikh (wk)

Aarif Sheikh is Nepal’s go-to middle-order batsman. From steadying an innings after its collapse or scoring crucial runs at crucial moments, Aarif excels at staying calm under pressure. In 2022 against Namibia and again this week against Bangladesh he proved invaluable at anchoring their run chase and giving Nepal victory. This week his unbeaten 78 from 99 balls gave Nepal another great win!

Since Nepal made their ODI debut in 2015, Aarif has become an invaluable member of their squad and one of their leading run scorers with 1,203 runs under his belt. While he typically bats at number five in their batting order, he can also switch up depending on team needs.

Sheikh can add some value to the bowling attack with his right-arm medium pace bowling, having taken eight wickets in ODI cricket and amassing 8 wickets overall.

Sheikh has an outstanding performance behind the stumps as well. He boasts an exceptional stumping technique and can quickly move off his mark.

Sheikh made his T20I debut against West Indies in the opening match of this series and has become an indispensable member of Nepal’s side since. A smart and intelligent player, Sheikh has proven he can read the game well and make crucial decisions at just the right time, providing vital support for Bhurtel, Forde and Joseph, becoming an integral part of Nepal’s attack while taking two great catches in his debut match as an outstanding fielder – promising much for Nepal’s future!

4. Matthew Forde (wk)

Matthew Forde became an in-demand player in T20 leagues across the world, including St Lucia Kings and Surrey Jaguars of the CPL as well as Dambulla Aura of the LPL. 2024 saw Matthew make numerous commitments – such as playing for St Lucia Kings and Surrey Jaguars respectively as well as Dambulla Aura in Sri Lanka – alongside participating in BPL games with West Indies A team matches.

He made his T20I debut for West Indies against an Associate nation and made the most of his opportunity by scoring a fifty off 16 balls – matching AB de Villiers’ record for fastest fifty in this format.

Forde also played an instrumental role in the field, taking an incredible catch in the fifth over. Akeal Hosein hit sixes off both balls of his innings – including one off Forde at long off – as he approached an unbeaten hundred before Forde came up with the incredible catch at long off.

He had an accurate sense of where the ball would land, and his anticipation proved itself when he took it from deep inside the crease and moved forward and backward to take it with ease at his second attempt.

Nepal will celebrate a historic win and an end to the series against Windies with joyous scenes throughout their mountain villages. Kathmandu to Pokhara to Jhapa will ring out with praise after this significant win for their nation.

5. Shamar Joseph (wk)

West Indies began their T20I series against Nepal with a disappointing start, losing opener Evin Lewis for just two runs in the opening over and then seeing their captain Akeal Hosein dismissed in subsequent over. These setbacks put West Indies on an early backfoot position.

Nepal was impressive, restricting West Indies batsmen to an underwhelming total with some outstanding fielding and hitting from batsmen, in an outstanding victory for an Associate nation over full member country in T20I cricket. It was truly historic.

Shamar Joseph made headlines for taking an eye-catching catch to dismiss Allen in the second over. Bhurtel struck a fuller length delivery to Allen who then hit it back towards long off, which caused it to fly high into the air where Bhurtel quickly leapt left and reached up for a miraculous catch by Shamar Joseph.

Joseph had made waves with his debut against Australia in 2024, after making an impactful Test series debut against them. A Guyana-born fast bowler, Joseph previously featured for Caribbean Premier League side Guyana Amazon Warriors during their 2023 title run and was one of their key players during that run.

Following an outstanding Test series performance against Australia, Shamar Joseph earned his place in the West Indies squad for the Nepal T20I series. His inclusion became an important highlight in the Nepal National Cricket Team Vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard, as the fast bowler continued to impress with his pace and wicket-taking ability. Joseph also made his IPL debut as a replacement for Mark Wood at Lucknow Super Giants, featuring in one match during the tournament.
