Smriti Mandhana becomes the first Indian cricketer ever to score centuries across all forms of women’s cricket and break records for most runs scored by an Indian in T20I series. She was followed soon thereafter by Tammy Beaumont of England making her T20I debut.
Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt each reached 4000 One Day International runs for India this week – making them the only women’s international cricket players to surpass this landmark in multiple teams.
ODIs
One Day Internationals (ODIs) are cricket matches played between teams with international status. These limited overs matches typically last up to seven hours and are governed by the International Cricket Council; it is used frequently in major international competitions, including World Cup tournaments that take place every four years. Furthermore, ODIs are widely broadcast by domestic and international television channels alike.
ODIs are played across various stadiums around the world. Each innings lasts 50 overs, divided into three powerplays of 10 overs each – the first powerplay allows only two fielders outside of a 30-yard circle; however, after that restriction has been relaxed to allow five fielders on both teams outside this circle for the remainder of the innings; finally in the last powerplay teams can set defensive or attacking fields to their advantage.
England women have struggled in their one-day international series against India, but victory at Lord’s would give them an insurmountable 3-1 lead. Sophie Ecclestone and Amy Jones led England to victory by one wicket at Lord’s in the second match; Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kranti hit hundreds for India to seal an easy first win at home.
England women will host five nations for an international cricket series at Lord’s in 2026, including a landmark first test between them and India – fixtures were released Sunday for this series which will serve as a precursor to Australia and New Zealand hosting their World Cup tournament later in that year.
Tests
The England women’s national cricket team has enjoyed great success throughout its history, most notably winning the 2009 World Cup against New Zealand with Claire Taylor leading them. Additionally, England have won three Ashes series and five ODI series under her leadership.
England women’s national cricket team won their inaugural Rothesay Test at Lord’s, beating visitors by only one wicket with Isa Guha taking nine wickets and hitting winning runs in one day internationals for the first time – an unprecedented achievement!
Following on their success at the World Cup, the England women’s cricket team went on to claim another remarkable success at Lord’s: beating Scotland 4-3 by hitting winning runs for just 1 wicket each! It is hard to beat such impressive cricket.
England made their comeback into ODIs against Australia for a five-match series at Lord’s, winning the toss and opting to bowl first. While their start wasn’t great – both Lanning and Healy fell early – Jess Cameron scored 45 off 34 balls to help lead England to 228-8 in 50 overs.
England won the toss and elected to bat first in their second matchup against Australia, with Sarah Taylor and Charlotte Edwards making solid starts before losing their wickets to Katherine Brunt and Holly Colvin’s spinners Katherine Brunt and Holly Colvin claiming two wickets each while restricting scoring – Brunt taking two scalps while Colvin two. Still, Taylor scored an exceptional 71 and Beth Morgan posted 49 so as to ensure England finished in a commanding position on Day Two.
At Hove, England was hoping to complete their whitewash of the series. Taylor and Edwards started brightly for England, both reaching fifty before Edwards was dismissed for an impressive career best 151.
Unfortunately, England then faded in the middle order, leaving only Jodie Marsh making any real contributions before Brunt and Colvin continued their good form, with Brunt taking four wickets while Colvin picked up three to help narrow the deficit to 27 runs.

England openers Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge got England off to a fast start but India’s spinners Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy quickly reduced them to 59/2. India suffered a setback at the World Cup, yet still managed to finish second overall with Sri Lanka as their final opponent and are ranked first on ICC Women’s T20 Rankings with 10 positions atop.
They hope to maintain their dominance at Australia/New Zealand Tournament where they’ll meet Pakistan and South Africa – and have already been working hard on honing their skills ahead of this tournament.
