Jaker Ali will need to step up significantly if Afghanistan are going to close in. Bangladesh are under immense pressure to maintain an impressive run rate here and keep Afghanistan within striking distance of victory.
Atal is looking at ease on the pitch but must work on his shot selection to score big here. As time progresses, batting may become increasingly challenging as well as older pitches become harder for hitting.

Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 1st ODI
Afghanistan have found themselves in an advantageous position against Bangladesh despite their slow start, thanks to a century-plus stand between Hashmatullah Shahidi and Mohammad Nabi which helped them score decently and defend this total effectively.
The match will go down in history for one reason only: for being the inaugural appearance of female wicket-keeper Sagora Hasan for Bangladesh in an ODI match. She managed to keep her nerves calm throughout her innings.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed that his team are eager to face the challenges ahead and are confident about their abilities. Players have been working to develop their strengths, believing they can achieve greatness in this series.
Najmul was of the opinion that while the pitch may be tough and dry to bat on, his players are working on honing their skills to do as best they can and attempting to make adjustments where necessary. Najmul stressed the importance of sticking to our plans and not becoming distracted by opposition players.
3.1: AM Ghazanfar to Tanzid Hasan, Out! BOWLED! In his very first over, Bangladesh have lost their first wicket due to an early strike by AM Ghazanfar’s mystery spinner. A straight and short delivery on off struck Tanzid, who attempted to flick it with his front foot but it got caught in the pitch instead, taking an unexpected bounce and castled their stumps for an outrageous wicket loss!
4. Mohammad Nabi to Mehidy Hasan: On the pads, Nabi rocks back and pulls it towards midwicket for a single. Bangladesh have been inconsistent in the field and are missing out on runs they need for victory.
Mustafizur Rahman to Nabi: On the pads and slightly fuller than usual. Nabi waited for it to come towards him before hitting it over long on for six. Bangladesh were forced to concede another few runs during this over.
The first Powerplay has come and gone and drinks break has been taken. Both sides now face an essential period in which to cement their positions – Bangladesh will need to pick up a few quick wickets here for maximum impact.
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI
Bangladesh will aim to avoid an embarrassing whitewash against an up and coming Afghanistan side when they meet again at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday in their second one-day international (ODI). Bangladesh dominated the first ODI here by winning by an overwhelming margin of 92 runs; Afghanistan can try their luck at levelling things by taking home victory here as well.
Najmul Shanto’s 74 along with cameo contributions from Soumya Sarkar and Jaker Ali led Bangladesh to 252/7 in 50 overs, taking three wickets off Nasum Ahmed while off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman picked up two each for their side.
Afghan batters struggled on a slow and used pitch that made batting challenging, only six scoring in excess of 14 with Rahmat Shah scoring 52 runs off 76 balls as their highest scorer.
But Bangladesh bowlers were clearly superior. They kept it tight while being excellent field players as well; their only disappointment being some wickets being lost during Powerplay.
Afghanistan now have an outside chance at salvaging their match, but they need exceptional batting from Rashid Khan to do it. On one attempt he hit Mustafizur over covers but was caught at long off.
Afghans must also keep an eye on any dew that sets in, since drying up of the ball will make batting much simpler for Bangladesh.
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 3rd ODI
Afghanistan (AFG) and Bangladesh (BAN) will square off in a third and final ODI at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on November 11. Both teams have displayed competitive edge thus far, with Afghanistan winning their initial match by 92 runs before Bangladesh leveled the series 1-1 thanks to a 68-run win in their second match.
Afghanistan batted first and scored 252 runs off 52 balls thanks to Hashmatullah Shahidi’s brilliant innings – scoring an unbeaten 84 off only 52 deliveries – while Mohammad Nabi added his unbeaten 107 runs for Bangladesh’s chase of this scoreline. Mahmudullah Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz maintained momentum by maintaining an effective partnership that kept Bangladesh’s chase moving along.
However, the hosts were dominant in the final stages of their innings and sealed a six-wicket win with Azmatullah Omarzai leading them with three wickets while Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi each collected one wicket each.
Bangladesh began well in their chase of India, with Nahid Rana’s electrifying pace creating immediate problems from the outset. Unfortunately, however, they could not capitalize on their excellent start, and missed opportunities such as dropped catch and failed stumping from Rahmanullah Gurbaz allowed him to complete his maiden ODI hundred.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah Hasan took charge in the middle order, scoring regular runs at regular intervals to maintain a competitive run-rate. Bangladesh were brought close to collapse during their final ten overs, but Azmatullah Omarzai rescued them with an unbeaten 72 off just 77 deliveries that earned Afghanistan an unexpected 68-run win.
Hashmatullah Shahidi, captain of Afghanistan’s victorious side, expressed great pride and satisfaction with how his side performed on Saturday. Chasing on this pitch can be difficult at the start of an innings but they hung together and did it! Fazalhaq Farooqi received special mention for his bowling while Rahmanullah Gurbaz stood out with his exceptional bating.
Afghanistan vs Bangladesh 4th ODI
Gaddafi Stadium pitch in Lahore offers an ideal surface for fast bowlers and spinners alike, and both teams should be able to score runs regardless of who wins the toss; however, batsman-friendly pitches often favor those that choose to bat first.
Both sides possess key players who have the potential to alter the outcome of any match, with Afghanistan counting on Rashid Khan after his impressive display against Bangladesh in the opening game of this series. Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s aggressive batting at the top and Mustafizur Rahman’s deft bowling can also make an impactful statement from their respective sides.
Bangladesh will hope that their experienced players can bolster the batting lineup and halt its poor form. Alongside Najmul Hossain Shanto, Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz will play key roles in winning this match; especially against Afghanistan’s disciplined attack and avoid a collapsed batsman. If they succeed at doing this then Bangladesh stands a good chance of levelling off this series with another win.
