Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Delhi Capitals (DC)

CSK and DC’s rivalry is an integral component of IPL narrative. While their head-to-head record still heavily favors CSK, DC has made strides recently towards increasing competition between themselves.

Their recent meetings have produced some of IPL’s finest moments from high scoring thrillers to tightly fought matches, from close encounters that showcase some of IPL’s greatest moments.

CSK have enjoyed an outstanding start to this year’s competition thanks to their unstoppable bowling unit and strong start, but must remain focused in order to stay in contention against tough opposition. Complacency cannot be allowed to set in and achievment must remain the top priority.

CSK have consistently held off Delhi in IPL history, winning 19 matches while DC have prevailed 12 times.

At Visakhapatnam in their previous encounter, DC had amassed an impressive 191 for 5 total. But CSK used their mid and lower order batting to easily chase it down while Dwayne Bravo and Ravichandran Ashwin ensured DC never exceeded an acceptable run-rate threshold.

DC struggled early, but rallied late. Unfortunately, however, their batsmen fell 20 runs short in an embarrassing defeat for the reigning champions.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side have not taken full advantage of their home advantage thus far, but hope to change that with a win against CSK on Saturday. MS Dhoni should return for this match up, giving them match awareness and tactical field placement advantages to gain momentum for success.

Mitchell Starc will likely feature prominently among Chepauk’s bowling options and his ability to apply pressure will be essential on such an unpredictable pitch.

Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav may provide control through spin bowling while Mohit Sharma and Vipraj Nigam may add variety in attack.

CSK vs DC history

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) and Delhi Capitals’ (DC) Indian Premier League (IPL) rivalry has become one of the most captivating narratives in tournament history.

Spanning 30 matches, this rivalry has produced memorable moments and iconic performances that have cemented its place in competition history; from CSK’s early dominance through to DC’s revival resurgence; it has provided cricket fans and observers alike an exciting spectacle.

CSK leads DC with 19 wins to 12, with their most recent meeting taking place on April 5, 2025 when DC defeated CSK by 25 runs at Chennai.

KL Rahul scored an outstanding 77-run knock for DC as they made good on their aim to chase down a target on a track offering both turn and grip.

Since their inaugural matchup in 2008, this matchup has produced many memorable moments. MS Dhoni’s calculated leadership and bowling have been key in several Chennai Super Kings victories; Rishabh Pant’s fearless approach has turned many DC losses into narrow victories.

Their playoff clash in 2019 demonstrated this further when CSK outclassed an increasingly talented DC side.

CSK have an outstanding home record against DC, winning 19 out of their 30 meetings – an unbeaten eight game run between 2013 and 2017 which cemented their dominance of the league.

Axar Patel’s DC squad has shown plenty of promise early in this IPL season, proving themselves capable of fielding an experienced lineup featuring Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Starc.

While they lost their previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, DC entered this one full of confidence after earning a solid seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chepauk; but have yet to secure victory against CSK there yet – creating more nail-biting thrillers and memorable moments than ever.

CSK vs DC recent form

CSK and DC have met 30 times during the history of IPL, with CSK winning 19 matches while DC taking 11 victories. Most recently, CSK thoroughly defeated DC by 20 runs to maintain their superiority over their rivalry.

KL Rahul’s elegant batting and disciplined bowling propelled Delhi Capitals to an easy win against CSK at Chepauk on Saturday (April 5, 2025). He combined power and style, hitting six fours and three sixes during his 67-ball 77 innings.

After their win, Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel noted the importance of making an impressionful statement during a game. They discussed this at their team meeting and are content with how their batters have performed.

He highlighted the need for an aggressive powerplay; according to him this will give them an edge against future opponents and it is time for them to move beyond their current method and embrace something different.

CSK vs DC at Chepauk

After two consecutive losses, CSK returned home at M A Chidambaram Stadium hoping to regain winning ways and were hoping to do just that against high-flying DC.

Unfortunately for them though, they slipped to an innings defeat against DC as early control was gained by them from start to finish and never relented; even when Vijay Shankar and MS Dhoni managed to remain unbeaten during their innings it wasn’t enough for CSK to post an impressive total.

DC won their first match at Chepauk in 15 years last week and will look to replicate that performance when they visit again next week – without their star batsman Shikhar Dhawan who is injured.

Delhi bowlers also excelled in this match and captured seven wickets with Akash Madhwal taking four in just one over against CSK.

On the other hand, CSK struggled with their batting once more and were unable to post an adequate total. Their opener Rachin Ravindra scored half a century while their remaining batsmen fell flat.

DC’s bowlers also put in an impressive performance as they restricted the hosts to just 184 runs in 20 overs. Although DC’s top order didn’t fare particularly well – Rishabh Pant was out early with only 1 run scored – they did have some batsmen who performed admirably in their middle order.

CSK’s batsmen may not have performed as expected with their bat, but they did manage to score some crucial runs late in the game – Rahul Tripathi hitting six fours off just eight balls was one such example which allowed his side to draw level with their hosts.

Pan Singh and Devaki Devi of Dhoni were present at the venue to watch his match against DC, making them even happier after his performance when they praised their son Pan. Unfortunately for CSK however, DC had enough momentum left in them to win with just over overs remaining on the clock.
