IND vs SL 1st ODI
Sri Lanka and India fought an exciting opening ODI at Colombo that ended in a thrilling tie as Charith Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga each picked up three wickets to restrict India to 230 runs, but Rohit Sharma hit 64 off 44 balls but Axar Patel fell cheaply, sending India spiraling toward defeat. Sri Lanka celebrated an astounding triumph that marked their first bilateral ODI series victory since 1997!
Sri Lanka won the toss and made an excellent start, with Pathum Nissanka adding 53 runs with Janith Liyanage before Dunith Wellalage’s maiden half-century stitching together three crucial partnerships. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka’s innings collapsed from there as spinners took control. Wellalage struck twice within two overs to remove opener Shubman Gill and then promoted batsman Rohit before two well placed strikes from Wellalage removed opener Shubman Gill before Wellalage struck twice more in two overs to remove opener Shubman Gill and promoted batsman Rohit who hit sixes and fours before retiring early. Kohli and Shreyas Iyer tried their best but both also fell quickly to bring their team score down to 177/6 at tea time.
Akila Dananjaya bowled Axar Patel before he could make much progress, leaving him out-smarted by HawkEye and an onfield call of “OUT.”
Shivam Dube was next in line, driving hard and straight but finding himself caught at cover comfortably. A few overs later, Asalanka delivered an unbelievable leg-before delivery that sent Shivam back into the pavilion in shock – leaving Indian dressing room shocked as game tied! IND vs SL 2nd ODI
Sri Lanka managed a thrilling victory in the second ODI and leveled their series with just one match left to play, taking advantage of some inspired bowling from Charith Asalanka to beat India comprehensively and deliver yet another devastating defeat for them. Once again India started strong with both openers sharing an excellent partnership; however once their middle order collapsed they never recovered; Axar Patel and Washington Sundar did attempt resistance but were soon dismissed by Sri Lanka.
At the Colombo Stadium, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first after winning the toss. Their opening pair fell quickly before Dunith Wellalage joined Kamindu Mendis in sharing a 72-run partnership to provide them with some breathing room at 136/6 before eventually all out for 240 runs in 50 overs.
India responded quickly in their reply as Rohit Sharma hit two sixes off the first three balls he faced from Vandersay, followed by Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli who added four boundaries between them in the opening powerplay. Unfortunately for India however, Rohit attempted a high-risk play when attempting to reverse sweep Vandersay’s leggie into backward point fence and failed to clear it; unfortunately for him Nissanka caught him at long-on.
Once after five overs, India’s requirements increased substantially and their batsmen struggled to keep pace. Nissanka’s wicket in the sixth over spelled doom for them and reduced them to 6/3; regardless of Chamari Athapaththu and Shafali Verma’s valiant efforts in rallying support of them both, however, the visitors fell short of an impossible victory and failed to end their series in style with one game left to go.
IND vs SL 3rd ODI
Charith Asalanka led Sri Lanka to an emphatic 2-0 series win against India at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Wednesday. Rohit Sharma (35) and Washington Sundar (30) batted valiantly but were eclipsed by Dunith Wellalage’s spinners (5.1-0-27-5).
Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando took advantage of the favorable batting conditions early, building a 132-run opening stand before Pathum was eventually dismissed for 96 off 102 balls, assisted by Kusal Mendis’ contribution of 59 off 51 balls.
After an inauspicious start, India gradually started picking up wickets at regular intervals with Kuldeep Yadav taking two in three overs to rattle Sri Lanka’s top order. But thanks to solid batting from their middle order batsmen, Sri Lanka managed to build on this momentum and establish their position once more.
Maheesh Theekshana excelled as number seven batsman and struck three sixes off Dunith Wellalage’s lofted shot over long-on to hit some stunning sixes in quick succession – four in particular. As his innings progressed he continued his assault of sixes that continued with every successive over.
Riyan Parag recorded three wickets on his debut, but wasn’t enough to stop Sri Lanka posting a competitive total of 248 for 7. He bowled off-breaks that denied Avishka Fernando his century, while Kusal Mendis hit some stylish sixes as part of their second innings partnership to level the series.
Mendis is now at the crease and looks to step up his pace, however he gets hit hard off an Asalanka delivery which deflects into his stumps, but no decision was given at once due to delays by umpires; then Mendis hit Siraj for a lofted six over midwicket for another 13 runs to add.
IND vs SL 4th ODI
Sri Lanka made history on Wednesday by beating India for the first time since 1997 in a bilateral one-day international series. Charith Asalanka’s team defeated Rohit Sharma’s India by 110 runs at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo – giving the tourists their first 2-0 advantage of any series they are playing against India.
The Sri Lanka-W team needs to score 119 runs in 60 balls in order to meet its target. Although facing an enormous deficit, they should be able to establish an effective partnership between Kamindu Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana as they have already scored many runs this season and will look to continue doing so.
Axar Patel bowls a fine over, restricting scoring for the hosts. He picks up an edge off Pathum Nissanka’s attempt at slog sweeping, giving Rishabh Pant a straightforward catch. Avishka Fernando closes in on an outstanding ODI century by hitting two fours and one six off Axar Patel’s spinner this over.
SL-W openers make an impressive start, scoring 51 runs in five overs to gain momentum for their innings. Since then they have added another 12 in the next three overs as they aim to build up an impressive total. Maheesh Theekshana has batted brilliantly so far and currently stands on 28 not out.
Although losing their first wicket in the fourth over, Sri Lanka-W have managed to score an impressive total. Dunith Wellalage made full use of conditions at the stadium and used Kuldeep Yadav’s spinners well for sixes but ultimately fell foul of Kuldeep Yadav when trying to hit one off Kuldeep Yadav but missed with his bat – leading them down into danger before his dismissal was confirmed by DRS. Batsmen from Sri Lanka-W have used conditions well at this stadium while Indian spinners struggled initially before showing improvement – meaning second innings will focus on India batsmen who may not have performed as they could have in this game!
