MI vs LSG
LSG defeated Mumbai Indians by 12 runs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday – marking a first for any non-top eight side in IPL history – moving Rishabh Pant’s side up the table to second position.
Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to bat first, introducing Mayank Yadav for his debut appearance of the season, replacing injured Shardul Thakur. Unfortunately, Yadav proved costly allowing 23 runs in two overs.
Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav scored two consecutive fifties as MI reached 215/7 in 20 overs, partnering to score an innings-turning partnership of 77 that saw both batsmen reach their respective half-centuries with Ryan becoming the tournament’s highest run scorer with his effortless 54 off 28 balls.
MI reached 200 runs after reaching 200-run mark quickly with contributions from Naman Dhir and debutant Corbin Bosch – both making cameo appearances – before Digvesh Rathi ended proceedings quickly with his economical bowling spell.
In their chase of 200 runs for victory, visitors SKY (29 off 18) and Tilak Varma were in fine form for the visitors. Both found two boundaries in the 10th over, with SKY playing an amazing scoop over fine leg to get to his fifty.
He took one off Ravi Bishnoi in the next over, hitting another four and six off him before being caught by Rohit at deep square leg; unfortunately Hardik Pandya couldn’t take advantage of an unusual combination off last ball of this over.

First Innings
Mumbai Indians (MI) appear poised for an easy win at Wankhede. Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram both scored quick half-centuries while Suryakumar Yadav has also been impressive.
Even without captain Rohit Sharma on board in the powerplay phase, MI have an excellent foundation upon which to build their second innings performance.
Jasprit Bumrah delivers on his very first over to dismiss LSG opener Aiden Markram for nine. A back of a length delivery slanted towards leg, Markram attempts to play the sweep shot but ends up hitting Naman Dhir at deep backward square instead – marking their first wicket fall in their chase of 216 runs.
SKY strikes two back-to-back fours off Mayank Yadav in his previous over, taking an important step towards his half-century and unmooring the game from LSG with his devastating hitting.
LSG are struggling in their run chase as Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni struggle to gain any ground. Badoni attempted a six straight drives but Will Jacks at extra cover successfully blocked them all.
Trent Boult struck twice within one over to end all hope of Lucknow Super Giants staging a comeback. The New Zealand pacer clean bowled David Miller for 24 before dismissing Avesh Khan and Abdul Samad for ducks; Ayush Badoni tried for big shots but found Will Jacks at extra cover instead, winning by 12 runs; their performance deserves praise and all praise is due. Won by Mumbai Indians.
Final Innings
MI defeated LSG by 54 runs to win their fifth successive match and move up to second on the points table. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma struck early boundaries to establish control for their side before Rohit hit two consecutive sixes off Mayank Yadav’s bowling to reach his fifty off 19 balls – Rickelton scored five boundaries and four sixes while dominating in his innings as well.
Naman Dhir and Corbin Bosch cameoed for MI as they helped reach a remarkable total of 215/7 in their allotted 20 overs!
LSG’s chase was far slower as their batsmen struggled to get going. Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant both began poorly before being dismissed by Deepak Chahar for 8 and 27 respectively, exposing LSG’s middle order further as David Miller, Avesh Kumar and Abdul Samad remained without an opening or even reaching double figures in their innings.
Ayush Badoni and Mitchell Marsh tried to restore order to their team’s batting performance but both fell prey to Jasprit Bumrah within one over, who also removed Ayush Badoni and David Miller within the following over to leave them struggling at 142/7 after 16 overs.
Trent Boult sealed LSG’s fate when he sent Digvesh Rathi packing with his final delivery, sending 161 runs-worth packing back into their shell and into relegation zone.
