Toss

After winning the toss, LSG elected to bowl first on a wet surface, which resulted in quick wickets such as Kagiso Rabada’s delivery stride being disrupted and Aiden Markram being caught at midwicket by Sherfane Rutherford. Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya kept wickets falling to keep GT batsmen under pressure.

GT was put under immediate pressure when they lost Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler quickly in succession, prompting some resistance from Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan, but were unable to rebuild their innings despite Sherfane’s fifty sparking some hope; William O’Rourke’s breakthroughs in early overs eventually ruined them all.

Mitchell Marsh scored an unbeaten century and Nicholas Pooran delivered a disciplined bowling performance, helping LSG secure an easy victory against GT.

Their outstanding combination of explosive batting and effective bowling will be key in reaching the playoffs this season, while GT will need to address their top-order fragility as well as ways of increasing scoring rates during demise overs.

1st Innings

After an explosive start by LSG bowlers, Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan revived GT’s chances with an outstanding partnership of 86 in 40 balls between them – giving GT a shot at winning. LSG responded with Mitchell Marsh’s first-class energy hitting ability and Nicholas Pooran’s finishing firepower to post an impressive total of 235/2 on the high scoring black-soil surface. Marsh scored an unbeaten 117 from 64 balls while Pooran contributed unbeaten 56 runs from 27 balls for LSG’s total in remaining overs.

As soon as he was out, however, Avesh delivered an incredible delivery that bounced off Markram’s glove and hit the stumps to give LSG the advantage.

Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya did their part by maintaining control in the last overs, helping seal victory by 33 runs for LSG at their home ground – their first victory against GT at home ground!

O’Rourke took two key early scalps by dismissing Aiden Markram and Rahul Tewatia within one over of the powerplay to reduce momentum, before using an excellent slower ball from Avesh in 16 overs to trap Shahrukh with ease before Avesh struck twice consecutive overs to put an end to any hope GT may have held onto before LSG secured their second win of the season as well as top spot on points table with five wins out of six matches played!
