India continues its dominance at the T20 World Cup, with another easy victory against Bangladesh. They are poised to move onto the semi-finals and hope to complete a perfect run when they face Australia in the final. But this game provides Bangladesh an opportunity to make amends after a difficult start; players like Towhid Hridoy, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mahmudullah could give India some headaches!
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli started the match with a bang as they opened with two sixes each to begin India’s innings. Although Bangladeshi bowlers found it hard to contain Indian batsmen, they did manage a few wickets with Jasprit Bumrah taking two scalps; first trapping Shakib Al Hasan with an off cutter with slower off cutter, trapping Shakib LBW, then dismissing Rishad Hossain with an off spinner that kissed Suyakumar Yadav’s gloves for easy catch at third man.
Bangladesh started off their reply with an impressive partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das, but were ultimately limited to scoring only 183 runs. Their batsmen were undone by Indian bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah taking three wickets in four overs while Kuldeep picked up two wickets.
At an increasing required run rate, Bangladesh batsmen were struggling to cope with Indian bowlers. Mahmudullah performed an outstanding piece of shot-making that provided much-needed momentum for Bangladesh’s chase – hitting two sixes and two fours during his innings before departing due to being unable to cope with faster deliveries from Ravindra Jadeja and being caught at short midwicket.
