India, nestled between the Great Himalayas in the north and the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea in the south, offers an astounding blend of cuisines, faiths, music, art, nature and tribes that is bound to capture your attention.
Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur will be key figures to keep an eye on during this three-match ODI series against Australia Women. In this article, we will discuss the main points of India Women vs Australia Women’s National Cricket Team Match Scorecard.
Alyssa Healy
Healy is an aggressive batter who can decimate bowling attacks and set Australia up to make powerful runs off powerplays. She has played in major tournaments and matches throughout her career and produced some memorable knocks in her time.
She has played an outstanding role for Women in Blue in their middle order as she consistently hits boundaries and dares herself to play big shots – something which is working extremely well.
Healy was disappointed to see her team fall, yet is hopeful about its future prospects. She credits Phoebe Litchfield with leading from the front, with many young players meeting expectations and performing brilliantly; She credits Litchfield’s inspiring leadership for encouraging this growth among the women’s squad, while hoping they continue dominating in future matches. The Australian skipper remains confident about this being true.
Richa Ghosh
Richa Ghosh is an all-round wicketkeeper-batswoman. She can quickly close in at the crease and bowls at an impressive pace; all qualities that have made her one of white-ball cricket’s go-to performers.
Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield give Australia Women hope by scoring 49 runs off India’s opening wicket. However, India’s depth in batting proves too much for Australia Women to handle.
Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and debutante Richa Ghosh led India with impressive batting performances but their lower order quickly crumbled against Australia’s outstanding bowling attack, eventually losing by an innings margin. Australia took a commanding 2-0 lead in this three-match series which continues on Sunday 27 January for their third and final clash.
Shafali Varma
Shafali Varma made her mark during an exhibition game toward the end of IPL 2019. Her fearlessness and precision when selecting shots made a lasting impression.
As against Australia Women, she once again provided India with an outstanding start. Partnered by Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur, her unbeaten 54-run knock off 34 balls ensured India didn’t capitulate under pressure.
She collected two key wickets for the team as well. First, she bowled an impressive over to bowl out Jemimah Rodrigues before sending back Ellyse Perry. Additionally, she completed her hat-trick against Ashleigh Gardner whose bat nipped back off the deck into her back leg, forcing a review process which failed resulting in Ashleigh Gardner walking back after receiving her ban for leg-strike off batswoman hit back leg by ball nipped back off deck which hit her batswoman back off leg strike which forced Ashleigh Gardner back.
Jemimah Rodrigues
Jemimah Rodrigues is an India women’s national team cricketer and right-handed batsman and off break bowler from Bhandup, Mumbai. Born September 5th 2000 she made her WODI and T20I debuts in 2018. Additionally she represents two Melbourne franchises (Stars and Renegades) in Women’s Big Bash League competition.
Rodrigues put on an outstanding batting performance during her single innings, amassing 69 runs off 33 balls with nine boundaries and three massive sixes for an astounding strike rate of 209.1. She proved herself as an aggressive batswoman at the crease.
However, she acknowledged there was still room for improvement and specifically pointed to the top-order needing to score more runs. Overall she was satisfied with both their total and bowlers performance as they effectively kept the Mumbai batsmen under pressure throughout the match.
Harmanpreet Kaur
Harmanpreet Kaur is an outstanding cricketer who first gained attention after scoring a magnificent 103 against New Zealand at the Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in 2013. As soon as that achievement became public knowledge, Harmanpreet Kaur became captain of her Indian team.
She has shown promising form with the bat during Test cricket but has struggled in white-ball cricket; her scores of 26 and 9 against Australia don’t bode well for India’s chances.
Titas Sadhu steps in for Renuka Singh for the next over and begins by bowling an off-spinner which Georgia Wareham edges towards Beth Mooney at deep third for six runs – though there was an appeal for caught behind but this was overruled by the umpire and six runs were scored from Sadhu’s over! An impressive spell from her.
Smriti Mandhana
Mandhana has been on an impressive run since her return to the national team, scoring two ODI centuries and four half-centuries over her last five matches played.
Darcie Brown to Smriti Mandhana on Leg Side hits Mandhana squarely for four runs off her pads to score off this ball, with her next attempt resulting in another four over mid wicket.
Pooja Vastrakar bowled to Ellyse Perry and hit her on her back leg with the ball that came back into play, she appealed but the umpire disagreed and Perry was out LBW! This was a serious setback for Australia; they lost three wickets within six balls in the 16th over despite Raghvi Bist and Tejal Hasabnis sharing an excellent 50-run partnership which kept their hosts from collapsing altogether. But these two rallied to save them.
Amanjot Kaur
Amanjot Kaur made her debut with power hitting, helping India reach an acceptable total. Her 34 off 328 balls included three huge sixes and 80m thulps; providing much-needed support to India’s batting.
As Australia opened their innings, they challenged India with aggressive batsmanship; however, Pooja Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil managed to reduce them down to 99/4 in 16 overs.
Megan Schutt and Beth Mooney initially gave their side hope, but quickly fell back. Alyssa Healy took charge alongside Phoebe Litchfield to quash any hopes of an unlikely comeback.
Shreyanka Patil
Shreyanka Patil made an impressive comeback to form, taking two wickets as she upset Australia Women batswomen with her offbreak bowling skills.
Pooja Vastrakar to Ellyse Perry: Out! Leg Break. An appeal was raised against this call but ultimately deemed out by the umpire.
Alana King to Phoebe Litchfield. When Alana King pitches it angled down the off side, Shreyanka Patil gets it under her bat and hits towards sweeper cover where it was quickly stopped by a fielder in the deep. A good catch by him saved us a single run run.
Pooja Vastrakar remains undaunted by the challenge of taking down Aliya Riaz and Sadia Iqbal with her deft bowling, and hopes for more success on Friday. The left-arm spinner will look for more success.
Renuka Singh
Renuka Singh serves as an example for young cricketers looking to make it big; her journey from Himachal Pradesh hills to international cricket arena shows that dreams can indeed come true with hard work and perseverance. Renuka is now an established bowler for India and leading wicket taker in their series against Australia.
She can bowl an array of deliveries, including in-swingers, yorkers and leg-cutters. Following an impressive showing at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, she earned a much-earned place in the senior squad to face Australia in an ODI series.
Georgia Wareham, Ashleigh Gardner and Alana King have made her mark on Australia in ODIs with four wickets each and reduced them to 34/4 during chase attempts. Georgia will bowl the final over of each match alongside her spin trio of Georgia Wareham, Ashleigh Gardner and Alana King.
Titas Sadhu
Titas Sadhu may not have made her senior ODI debut yet, but the 19-year-old proved her worth during three limited-overs matches played for India A against Australia A on the DY Patil track. Her limited-overs performances showed she is more than an age group player. Titas smashed through their batting lineup in three matches she participated in – assailing the Australian batsmen with ease to shatter them for India A.
She opened up bowling in this game, prompting Tahlia McGrath (0) to attempt a lofted shot that was easily caught at deep third. On her subsequent over, she used an angle bowler’s shot against Ashleigh Gardner (0).
Pooja Vastrakar then claimed Ellyse Perry LBW when she attempted a big back leg shot, with no review available to assist Australia as the umpire upheld her original decision. This wicket reignited the crowd’s enthusiasm – one of four from Vastrakar! – who finished up with figures of 4-17 from her four overs bowled.
