Though they missed out on play-offs, PBKS showed resilience by their performances during 2022 matches.

The two teams first faced off against one another in 2008 when both sides were still trying to figure out the new T20 circus. Despite some early challenges, an intense and intriguing rivalry quickly formed between them.

PBKS and Chennai Super Kings will face off in what should be an intense contest with both sides possessing formidable batting and bowling units.

In their inaugural match of 2019, Royal Challengers Bangalore edged past Punjab by just one wicket at Bengaluru after being propelled by Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa to score 205/2 off 18.5 overs in just 18.5 overs.

However, AB de Villiers scored an unbeaten 83 to help Punjab close out an even contest at home thanks to Azhar Mahmood’s three wicket haul.

Faf du Plessis’ 102 and Virat Kohli’s 75 guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to an 11-wicket victory at Cuttack. Glenn Maxwell’s explosive innings and Adam Gilchrist’s 107 enabled PBKS to strike back later in the season and avenge this defeat.

The season culminated with an unforgettable IPL final at Narendra Modi Stadium – one of India’s foremost cricket temples – featuring a thrilling Kohli-Rabada battle and an edge-of-your-seat finish – matchups like these are what create rivalries; this was no different!

Season 3

Royal Challengers Bangalore won an exciting match against Punjab Kings by five wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium due to rain delays, with only 14 overs per side possible per team. Tim David scored an unbeaten fifty, but even that couldn’t overcome their bowling effort.

Since the inception of the Indian Premier League, these teams have faced off 37 times with each team winning 19-18 in head-to-head meetings.

PBKS’ greatest victory against RCB occurred during 2011, when Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh combined for a partnership of 206 for second wicket to help chase down 234 at Dharamsala.

After years of nearly winning their inaugural IPL title and heartbreak, Royal Challengers Bangalore finally won. When AB de Villiers walked up with the trophy and celebrated, everyone in the stadium came alive in joyous celebration – this moment will never be forgotten.

Season 4

In the fourth season of IPL, RCB and PBKS met for the first time in the final. It was an epic contest which brought out the best from both teams; an encounter which went to the wire before ending with a thrilling six-run triumph for RCB.

The match took place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bowl first despite some rain delays; nonetheless, it was still an intense contest with both bowlers of both teams keeping total scores low, including unbeaten centuries from Shaun Marsh and Tim David from Kings to help seal another IPL win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with Shreyas Iyer beaming with pride as he made his way towards the podium at RCB’s final countdown!

Once again, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to bowl first, with their bowlers producing an outstanding display of disciplined bowling.

Even after Punjab’s openers made a promising start, their bowlers managed to keep them at bay with Nehal Wadhera’s mix-up run-out and Krunal Pandya’s timely wickets helping restrict them to just 157/6. Brendon McCullum and AB de Villiers posted a 106 run partnership that helped the visitors home without losing an innings this season; making this win number five out of five away games this season for them!

Season 6

In 2025, Royal Challengers Bangalore made history in IPL history by becoming the first team ever to win all away league stage matches and qualify for playoffs – beating Lucknow Super Giants in Eliminator 1 before beating Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 to reach their fourth final and win their maiden championship title since 18 years! Since then they have become second most popular IPL team, second only to Chennai Super Kings.

RCB’s win marked an end to an eight-year-long drought since they were acquired for Rs 464 crore by Vijay Mallya in 2008. Under new captain Rajat Patidar’s watch, this win marked their inaugural IPL title ever and was celebrated with champagne showers from players and fans on both ends of the field and stands. They will long remember it as proof that patience pays off!

Season 7

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium buzzed with excitement as fans eagerly anticipated an Indian Premier League battle between two of its most dynamic teams – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with its trademark of explosive batting and star power and Punjab Kings as a formidable opponent capable of upsetting anyone on any given day.

This season marked an inflection point in their rivalry’s journey. Matches became tighter, and tactical battles that would define subsequent seasons became apparent. RCB relied on controlled aggression when chasing, while Punjab struggled to defend totals and adapt their bowling strategies in pressure situations.

Adam Gilchrist led an improved Punjab team, but they fell just short of making the playoffs. Finishing sixth with six wins and 12 points (one better than last season), their only positive being Shaun Marsh’s stand-out season; unfortunately they weren’t able to convert close defeats into wins.

Season 8

Since the inception of IPL, RCB have won 19 matches to Punjab Kings’ 18 – but their rivalry extends far beyond mere statistics; it involves emotions galore and dramatic twists of fate that add an extra element of excitement and suspense to these competitions.

2025 saw PBKS at their best, modernizing their entire squad through the mega auction and creating a balanced team capable of taking on anyone, but still struggling to match RCB on home ground.

The next season marked a shift to tactical play between both teams, with both sides finding ways to exploit each other’s weaknesses.

RCB batters became more confident chasers while Punjab bowlers improved at the death, signalling a new phase in this rivalry, marked by tight finishes and high-pressure moments.

Season 9

After years of near misses and heartache, Royal Challengers Bangalore finally received the trophy they coveted after Virat Kohli led them to a six-run win at Ahmedabad after AB de Villiers shared in a 61-run opening stand with Kyle Jamieson and Krunal Pandya kept PBKS on track, with both Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh (46) falling victim to Salt and Pandya respectively.

Shreyas Iyer of PBKS won the toss and decided to bat first, banking on Ahmedabad’s record this season as it favours teams batting first; unfortunately for his bowlers though, Ahmedabad made their intentions known and Tim David’s heroic fifty proved futile when he was caught behind for 56 runs, giving PBKS their win.
