Zimbabwe have had a history of tension with their cricket board under Ozias Bvute’s leadership, which has been accused of discriminatory recruitment practices, impacting the overall Zimbabwe National Cricket Team Vs South Africa National Cricket Team Match Scorecard performance and team selection consistency.
Zimbabwe defeated South Africa in a T20 match at a triangular tournament earlier this year, thanks to great performances by Hamilton Masakadza and Brendan Taylor who each scored well to put Zimbabwe in an ideal position.

Zimbabwe vs South Africa
Zimbabwe has undergone significant change since Heath Streak and company first burst onto the international scene in 1974. They stunned Australia at Trent Bridge during their inaugural World Cup match and became formidable rivals on the limited overs circuit.
From 1992 onwards they became full members of the International Cricket Council, participating in three World Cups as well as various ODI matches before withdrawing from Test cricket altogether in January 2006.
Even though they have now officially pulled back from playing five-match formats, they still take part in several ODIs annually and hope that by continuing their performances within this format they may eventually make their return to Test cricket in future years.
South Africa will look to keep their unbeaten run going and secure top spot in this competition, but that won’t be easy as they face an unbeaten Zimbabwe team that defeated New Zealand in their Super Eight opener before succumbing to England in their group match-up.
However, they managed to pull off some impressive wins against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to keep pace with Pakistan at the top of the table.
On Thursday at Harare Sports Club they will meet again for their second meeting during this round-robin phase.
This series is critical for both teams as the winner will advance to the semi-finals while its loser will be eliminated from competition. South Africa and Zimbabwe have met nine times before in ODIs with South Africa winning six times and Zimbabwe only ever winning once out of eight matches against them (their most recent meeting coming up against South Africa this June).
Hamilton Masakadza and Brendan Taylor were Zimbabwe’s key performers in this match, scoring half centuries each to provide plenty of momentum as they move into the semi-finals.
Furthermore, both players shared three wickets among themselves to further boost their confidence going into this phase of competition.
Graeme Cremer sent short and wide outside off deliveries to Tristan Stubbs that were designed to be hit. Tristan slashed hard but Sikandar Raza made an excellent tumbling stop on his left and parried it away for one single, to leave them at 150-3 in 17.1 overs.
Zimbabwe’s innings started poorly when Vusi Sibanda was dismissed after 16 balls for 24. But captain Brendan Taylor and Hamilton Masakadza played impressively to build their innings and take Zimbabwe towards its target comfortably.
The series starts Wednesday in Johannesburg at Wanderers before moving on to Harare for its inaugural Test on Sunday. To cause an upset against South Africa’s formidable side, Zimbabwean batsmen must perform at their peak – an outcome which certainly seems plausible given their current form.
