KL Rahul & Faf du Plessis
KL Rahul has been DC’s best batsman this season, and when facing RCB he must continue this form. But it will also be important for him to remain composed when things become tough. This match will provide both teams with a great opportunity for growth.
Faf du Plessis is a South African cricket captain currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Prior to that he represented Lancashire County Cricket Club in England as well as Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant and Royal Challengers Bangalore during their respective stints.
Faf is known for his consistent performances both with bat and ball during T20 matches and made a name for himself by contributing consistently across T20 tournaments.
South Africa defeated Australia in an ODI series and Dwain was instrumental in that victory, becoming the first South African ever to score four ODI centuries consecutively – falling just short of becoming only batsman ever to make five such hundreds – only being caught off Mitchell Johnson during Port Elizabeth third ODI match and missing his chance.
Du Plessis has also become one of South Africa’s premier T20 run scorers in international play, amassing over 3,000 runs for his nation and scoring numerous times as Cricketer of the Year by the Cricket South Africa Association (CSA).
Additionally, he has captained South Africa both Test and T20I formats; furthermore representing Titans & Northerns domestic cricket teams as well as Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore & Chennai Super Kings IPL franchises.
Hemang Badani has kept KL Rahul’s batting position open. Players and coaches will decide which opener will open with Du Plessis; Delhi Capitals boast an experienced bowling unit including Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel for spin bowling all-rounders; Kuldeep Yadav as lead pacer; Mohit Sharma and Mukesh Kumar among their fast bowlers.
Shubman Gill & Sai Sudharsan
Gujarat Titans (GT), on their race to the top of IPL 2025 points table, can count Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s form among their many positives as key elements in their pursuit. Both players have led their sides to victory by dominating both Orange Cap and Purple Cap charts – even surpassing KL Rahul & Faf du Plessis who appear pedestrian by comparison!
Young pair have established an effective on-field rapport while opening for GT in the IPL, contributing significantly to its success this season.
Sudharsan’s unbeaten knock of 108 not out against DC at Arun Jaitley Stadium with 13 fours and sixes helped GT chase down 200 and earn playoff qualification.
An amazing turnaround for 23-year-old Maxwell Gill who had struggled during his initial seven innings. Although Maxwell only managed one fifty, GT skipper Gill remained confident in him making an impactful statement with India at No. 3.
Gill was very complimentary about Gill’s temperament and commitment to cricket, though cautioned against making judgments based on recent performances, which would be unfair. Gill advocated patience as the youngster continues to understand his game;
GT sees him as long-term option for India’s No. 3. Gill expressed that Gill still had much to learn in terms of technique but said he has potential and hunger – qualities Gill sees in GT being India’s No. 3 long term option. Gill lauded Head Coach Ashish Nehra for his vision in shaping player roles and empowering bowling unit; Nehra has done an exceptional job working with this group of players he believes.
Kuldeep Yadav & Axar Patel
Kuldeep Yadav is an exceptional bowler who thrives when faced with playing on different pitches and conditions, becoming one of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) most valuable assets since joining them for the 2022 season.
A big-game player, as demonstrated by his performance in the 2016 Champions League Twenty20 final when he took four wickets to help DC beat Bangladesh by 23 runs.
Kuldeep Agarwal has become DC’s go-to bowler when Mitchell Starc isn’t available, as their left-arm quick is a master finisher and DC will need him more than ever with three crucial regular season matches ahead of them and Pakistan duties coming closer and closer. But it remains unlikely he’ll play due to time commitments.
Axar Patel, too, has impressed with his spin bowling for India’s franchise and was recognized with Impact Player of the Match status during India’s win against Pakistan in Asia Cup.
In four overs he took 2/18 while keeping Fakhar Zaman and Salman Agha under control before taking an important catch to dismiss Hassan Nawaz.
As such, Patel was included in India’s spin-heavy squad for their two home Tests against England: Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep were also selected – giving captain Rohit Sharma an ideal balance – three spinners capable of smashing boundaries against three seamers who can unleash fierce blows.
While it might be tempting for Sharma to switch Patel out for Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian captain has wisely stuck by his young players. Patel and Gill share an excellent understanding of each other’s game and can form an unstoppable partnership for India at crucial moments during a campaign.
Gambhir has been an excellent support system for them both – spending time in the nets together discussing approach to the game as well as providing immediate feedback if anything seems amiss in technique; similarly he will assist Gill as he helps him push his way into India this year – just like he did when working closely alongside Nawaz and Shakib Al Hasan. Gambhir will always stand behind young talent all the way.
