India 111/3 (Suryakumar Yadav 50) beat United States 110/8 (Nitish Kumar 27) by 7 wickets

After an initially disappointing start, USA’s lower-order batsmen mounted an impressive comeback to take their total past 120. But during this process they lost two wickets – both to Arshdeep Singh. He made an early breakthrough by trapping Shayan Jahangir lbw off the first ball of an over, before having Andries Gous caught in deep by Mohammed Siraj shortly thereafter. Shortly afterwards Aaron Jones top-edged a short delivery and was caught at deep fine leg by Mohammad Siraj who took his final wicket when Aaron Jones top-edged another short delivery which was caught by Mohammed Siraj at deep fine leg by Mohammed Siraj at deep fine leg to complete his innings.

Corey Anderson and Steven Taylor each hit two fours but their efforts proved futile against Singh’s strikes in the 15th over, when Nitish Kumar was caught off-boundary by Axar Patel.

Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube had to take charge of taking their side past the line. Batting sensibly and resisting pressure without looking to score at every opportunity, they shared an outstanding fourth-wicket stand of 31 from 23 balls as the target crept closer.

India made it through to the Super 8s after being shocked by their co-hosts, and secured themselves the best record in the tournament.

Arshdeep Singh 4-9.

Arshdeep Singh’s brilliant four-wicket haul helped India seal a comprehensive seven-wicket victory against USA and secure their place in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup. Alongside Suryakumar Yadav’s well-judged unbeaten fifty, Suryakumar’s paceman role was pivotal in keeping USA under 100/8 runs for their innings total.

Left-arm seamer Rashid Khan enjoyed career-best figures of 4-9 in just four overs to uphold India’s dominance at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. In his opening over, he struck early, bowling out Shayan Jahangir leg before with his initial delivery before having Andries Gous caught in deep five balls later.

Corey Anderson (27) and Steven Taylor (24) attempted to give the hosts some momentum with their partnership of 31 in the fifth over, only for them both to be dismissed by Arshdeep in quick succession. Arshdeep returned in the next over to claim another wicket: Aaron Jones smartly caught at third man off Hardik Pandya’s short ball; Nitish Kumar for 27 was removed with Mohammed Siraj taking an excellent catch from deep midwicket boundary boundary.

India’s chase began poorly as captain Rohit Sharma was out for a golden duck off Saurabh Netravalkar (2/18). Suryakumar Yadav failed to make any impact with the bat either and was sent back by Axar Patel after striking straight into one of Axar Patel’s fielder hands. Virat Kohli (34) and Shivam Dube (31 not out) kept scoring through some aggressive hitting, yet their efforts weren’t enough – finishing second overall in Group A behind Ireland whom they will face off on Friday.

Hardik Pandya 2-14

No one could ever expect the United States national cricket team to remain unbeaten on day one against India, yet that was precisely what they achieved against them. Led by Nitish Kumar and featuring handy knocks from Corey Anderson and Shadley van Schalkwyk respectively, their innings totaled 110 runs.

United States was helped immensely by Netravalkar’s outstanding bowling, conceding just 18 runs in his four overs and supported by Pandya’s excellent fielding, who took an exceptional catch to get rid of Steven Taylor.

Hardik Pandya, who helped India reach the final of the T20 World Cup, has reached another landmark in his career by becoming the number one T20I all-rounder – becoming one of only a handful of Indian players ever to accomplish such an achievement.

At the T20 World Cup, he proved once again why his reputation is unparalleled; hard-hitting batsman, fast bowler, and superb fielder all at the same time! And his performances at this year’s competition did not fail him!

Pandya excelled with both bat and ball during their series against Pakistan and USA respectively. He took two wickets against each side – Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan were dismissed with ease while USA were rocked early on; and scored an unbeaten half century against Bangladesh as well as 23 not out against Australia and England with his bat.

Hardik could be more consistent, but when in form he’s unstoppable – as witnessed on Wednesday night when he made 16 runs off the final over, dismissing Miller with his first ball before holding on and seeing India home with four wickets remaining.

Suryakumar Yadav 4-26

Suryakumar Yadav didn’t have much opportunity to showcase his natural game at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Long Island. With his unorthodox playing style and tendency for unconventional shots, Suryakumar can be difficult for bowlers to read – making his performance crucial in India’s win against USA at this venue. Still, Surya hit a quick fifty from 49 balls while also hitting three sixes!

All his sixes came off slow deliveries from bowlers and they hit with force. When bowlers misjudged the length of their deliveries, he easily hit through extra cover and midwicket with ease; conversely, when their deliveries fell shorter than desired on the pitch he would sweep them over fine leg fence.

His best six came off of Mukesh Kumar’s 19th over, when the bowler delivered a short delivery outside off-stump that just stretched his hands over the long-on fence – on faster surfaces these balls would have flown high over the boundary!

Match-winning shots like that were vital, given that USA was struggling to score runs. After missing out on Super 8 stage, they must now beat Ireland on Friday at Central Broward Park and Stadium near Miami – where this match took place.

Though this tournament was low-scoring, its contests have been thrilling and produced thrilling finishes. Credit must go to the pitches which provided fast bowlers an opportunity to shine, especially Arshdeep Singh who earned Player of the Match thanks to four wickets taken from just four overs (two coming within the first over of an innings!). His performance earned him Player of the Match honors as well.

Arshdeep Singh Player of the Match

Arshdeep makes all the difference. He’s India’s go-to guy when things go south in their attack and makes things click when things fall apart. A masterful powerplay bowler who can take wickets with both new ball and death bowling, Arshdeep can be found leading his squad from behind as an integral member.

The International Cricket Council has acknowledged his extraordinary T20I career by selecting him in their Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2024 alongside Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. This recognition is richly deserved given that he has quickly established himself as one of the premier bowlers in this format – taking numerous wickets while performing efficiently at death on multiple surfaces.

India was awarded an early breakthrough against South Africa in their World Cup quarter-final, thanks to his brilliant powerplay bowling; and later on in the final against South Africa thanks to his superb death bowling, wherein he produced an almost perfect death over under immense pressure, conceding only four runs and leaving Hardik Pandya free to finish off victory with an over of his own in the last over.

Prior to that, he had struck twice when aiden Markram was dismissed in the second over of the match and again when the Proteas chased their target at Melbourne Cricket Ground by dismissing Quinton de Kock with the opening ball of the penultimate over.

Arshdeep hails from Punjab and now plays for Kent in the LV= Insurance County Championship, and prides himself as being humble young man who always seeks to learn more. While he learns a great deal from his older teammates and coaching staff, particularly Paras Mhambrey who worked with him on getting his run-up straighter to improve his swing-ability. Arshdeep loves cricket – wearing his hair in a bandana like fashion on the field while proudly wearing a dastar or proper turban when off it – while proudly donning both styles off-field!
